While Central Florida rolled all over Florida International 61-17 on August 31 to cash in as 17.5-point home favorites, Maryland quarterback Kasim Hill has been spectacular in completing 84.2 percent of his passes this season for 207 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and I believe he’ll out-duel UCF signal-caller McKenzie Milton in this contest, although Milton did look really good in torching FIU for 360 passing yards with four touchdowns and one interception in his lone appearance this season. Central Florida has gone 2-7 ATS in its L/9 games against a team with a winning record and Maryland is just 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games following a straight up win. When: Saturday, September 23, 2017at 12:00 PM ET Where: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Florida NCAAF Odds: NC State +12 Analysis: North Carolina State improved to 2-1 on the season by getting past overmatched Furman 49-16 on Saturday, but the Wolfpack fell to 0-3 ATS by failing to cover the spread as 36.5-point home favorites. Quarterback Ryan Finley completed 22-of-27 passes for 231 yards and one touchdown , while running back Nyheim Hines rushed 11 times for a team-high 92 yards and one score while backup running back Jaylen Samuels rushed five times for a modest 16 yards, but found the end zone three times. Florida State has played just once because of Hurricane conditions in the state following their 24-7 season-opening loss against Alabama that saw the Seminoles lose star quarterback Deondre Francois to a season-ending patella tendon injury. While the Noles have had a few weeks to regroup and apparently have another talented quarterback in in James Blackman, the fact that he’s being tossed in the fire as a true freshman doesn’t bode well for the Noles if you ask me, which is why I like NC State for the ATS upset in this contest, if not the outright win.
NC State is 20-4 ATS in their last 24 games following a bye week and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. While Florida State has gone 6-0 ATS in their last six games following an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in the last five home games, I’m thinking North Carolina State is the pick to keep the final score well inside the nearly two-touchdown spread following their 24-20 home loss against Florida State last season.
