2024 NFL Salaries: Highest Paid Players and How It Affects the NFL Betting Line

As NFL teams continue to shape their rosters, the NFL betting line is heavily influenced by player salaries, with top stars like quarterbacks and wide receivers earning millions. In 2024, NFL salaries are reaching new heights, from $28 million for a top offensive lineman like Tristan Wirfs to a staggering $55 million per year for quarterbacks like Trevor Lawrence. But how do these salaries affect the way oddsmakers set the lines for NFL games?

NFL Games for the Season

NFL salaries range from $28 million for a top offensive lineman like Tristan Wirfs to the absurd like $55 million per year to a quarterback like Trevor Lawrence.

The question for NFL handicappers is how much NFL salaries affect betting odds.

Does the fact that Dak Prescott and Joe Burrow make so much affect how oddsmakers set lines?

Keep reading for the top quarterback, wide receiver, and offensive linemen salaries and how those salaries may affect NFL odds.

Top Salaries for QB, WR, and Offensive Linemen

NFL Salaries: Quarterback

  1. Dak Prescott – Dallas $65 million
  2. Joe Burrow – Cincinnati $55 million
  3. Trevor Lawrence – Jacksonville $55 million
  4. Jordan Love – Green Bay $55 million
  5. Tua Tagovailoa – Miami $53.5 million

NFL Salaries: Wide Receiver

  1. Justin Jefferson – Minnesota $35 million
  2. CeeDee Lamb – Dallas $34 million
  3. Amon-Ra St. Brown – Detroit $30.25 million

Quarterback and wide receiver salaries affect odds… but sometimes they shouldn’t

Quarterback is the most important position on the field.

The quarterbacks that make the most money, no doubt, will affect NFL odds in some way.

This isn’t always the case.

No amount of money that Trevor Lawrence makes is going to affect the odds assigned to the Jacksonville Jaguars, a disaster of a football franchise.

Dak Prescott is another story.

When the Cowboys quarterback plays, Dallas has a better shot of winning the game.

Now that could reflect his salary or it could be a fact that has nothing to do with salary.

However, a happy Dak is a good thing.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, though, the rest of the offense is a mess.

Tua Tagovailoa and Joe Burrow are the most obvious examples of highly paid quarterbacks who are essential to their team’s success.

When Tua was out with a concussion early in the season, the Dolphins struggled.

Since Tua’s return, the Fins have become a good football team.

The Bengals signal caller is the single reason Cincinnati is a borderline playoff team.

Without Joe, the Bengals wouldn’t touch the playoffs.

When it comes to wide receivers, salaries are a sign of how important the position has become.

Justin Jefferson and Amon-Ra St. Brown are earning their salaries this season.

CeeDee isn’t but it may not be his fault.

When Jefferson is on the field, the odds on the Vikings change big time.

Minnesota can go from an underdog to a favorite when JJ plays.

We can’t say the same for the Vikings starting QB Sam Darnold.

Amon-Ra is important to Jared Goff’s success in Detroit.

But Goff is more important when it comes to the odds.

So Goff’s salary, which is high but didn’t make the top 5 may have some affect on the odds.

NFL Salaries: Offensive Line

  1. Tristan Wirfs RT – Tampa Bay $28.1 million
  2. Penei Sewell RT – Detroit $28 million
  3. Trent Williams LT – San Francisco $27.5 million
  4. Christian Darrisaw LT – Minnesota $26 million
  5. Laremy Tunsil LT – Houston $26 million

Why offensive line is the most important position in football and should affect betting odds in every NFL game

If there is a connection between salaries and NFL odds, the one position where it exists is the offensive line.

The top five paid offensive linemen deserve every penny.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t as hot as they were earlier in the season but Baker Mayfield is having his best season as a pro.

The reason is because of Tristan Wirfs anchoring a solid offensive line.

Penei Sewell, and Taylor Decker on the other side, make Detroit’s offensive line the best in the NFL.

Darrisaw is protecting Sam Darnold and look how well Darnold is playing?

Tunsil is the reason CJ Stroud and the Texans are Super Bowl contenders.

So the real connection between salaries and NFL odds is along the O-line.

When the highest paid offensive linemen are healthy, the odds on their teams are lower to cover or beat spreads because everything on the offense starts with offensive line play.

How do NFL Betting Line Work?

NFL betting lines are the foundation of how sportsbooks set odds for each game, and understanding how they work can significantly improve your betting strategy.

At the core of NFL betting lines are three main components: the point spread, the moneyline, and the over/under (total).

  1. Point Spread:
This is the most common type of bet in NFL games.
The favorite team must win by more than a certain number of points (the spread), while the underdog can either win or lose by fewer points than the spread to cover the bet.
For example, if the Kansas City Chiefs are -7.5 against the Denver Broncos, the Chiefs must win by at least 8 points for the bet on them to cover.

  2. Moneyline:
The moneyline bet focuses on picking the winner of the game straight up, without any point spread involved.
The odds are adjusted based on the perceived strength of each team, with favorites having lower odds (e.g., -150), meaning you must bet $150 to win $100, while underdogs have higher odds (e.g., +200), meaning you win $200 for every $100 wagered.

  3. Over/Under:
The over/under is the combined total points scored by both teams.
You bet on whether the total points will be higher or lower than the sportsbook’s set line.
For example, if the total is set at 47.5, you can bet that the combined score will be over or under that amount.

To make informed bets, it’s essential to stay up-to-date with the latest NFL odds and NFL betting lines. NFL News about injuries, team performance, or other factors can cause these lines to shift, so checking the sports news regularly will help you make the best bets.

If you’re ready to place your bet, head over to the NFL betting lines page and get the latest odds for the upcoming games.

Highest-Paid NFL Players by Position and How it Affects Betting Odds

Previous Betting News

The NFL boasts not only the most exciting athletes but also some of the highest-paid professionals in sports! With contracts reaching a staggering $55 million per year, these superstars can significantly impact a team’s performance. But how do these hefty salaries translate to NFL Odds?

It seems every season in the National Football League the salaries go up. That has not changed this season, as the highest paid player in the league is getting paid $55M per season.

Today, we thought we would get away from the betting scene a little and discuss the highest paid players by position for the 2024 season. Here they are:

2024 Highest Paid NFL Players by Position | MyBookie’s NFL Rundown of the Next Season

2024 NFL Season | 105th season of the National Football League
Super Bowl LIX: Sunday, February 9, 2025

Quarterback: Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals signal caller missed much of last season, and the Bengals paid the ultimate price. Cincinnati struggled all season long.

Now, Burrow is hoping to be back with his full allotment of weapons, and ready to compete again.

Remember, this is the last team outside of the Kansas City Chiefs to make the Super Bowl in the AFC.

Burrow has all the talent, and is making $55M per season.

Edge Rusher: Nick Bosa, San Francisco 49ers

The highest paid defensive player in the National Football League. Bosa is a complete menace on the field. He has helped his 49ers to back to back NFC Championship. Bosa is looking for that elusive Super Bowl title

The 26 year old played all 17 regular season games, and had 10.5 sacks a season ago.

He has played in over 200 in his career, and sits with 53.5 sacks. Bosa is making $34M per season.

Wide Receiver: AJ Brown, Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts loves to throw the football to AJ Brown. AJ Brown loves to get the football from Jalen Hurts. Those two really should find a way to dominate the league in 2024.

Brown finished fifth in receiving yards a season ago, and had 7 touchdowns.

Brown has been a staple of the offense for Philadelphia since coming over from Tennessee.

The Eagles are paying him $32M per season.

Defensive lineman: Chris Jones, Kansas City Chiefs

If Patrick Mahomes is the man on one side of the ball for the Kansas City Chiefs… Chris Jones is that guy on the defensive side.

He missed just one game last season, and finished with 10.5 sacks. Jones is making $31.75M per season.

But, he has been the leader on a defense that has won back to back Super Bowl titles.

Offensive lineman: Penei Sewell, Detroit Lions

Possibly underpaid. There really is nothing more important than keeping the quarterback upright.

That’s Sewell’s job, and no one in the game does it better. He is the top paid offensive lineman, at $28M per season.

His job is to keep Jared Goff from hitting the turf in Detroit.

Safety: Antonio Winfield Jr., Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Looking for someone to slow down all the stud receivers in this league? Call upon Antonio Winfirld of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is making over $21M per season.

A year ago, Winfield had just three interceptions, but his 122 tackles was near the top of the league as well.

This is an elite safety, and one players will look to catch up to on the field.

Cornerback: Jaire Alexander, Green Bay Packers

Young, exciting and talented. The Green Bay Packers were the talk of the town a season ago, as the youngest team in the league.

Alexander is the catalyst of a defensive unit that was underrated all season. He made $21M for the Packers heading into 2024.

Tight end: Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs

Or otherwise known as “Taylor Swift’s boyfriend”. Oh yeah, the man is a talented football player as well.

Without Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes does not have three Super Bowl rings.

Big, strong, and can move his feet well. Kelce is making $17.1M to start the 2024 season for the Chiefs.

Running back: Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

This guy can do everything. Well worth the money for the 49ers. He is a great running back that can also catch passes out of the backfield.

He has been a fantasy stud for players that have drafted him over the years. He makes $16M per season.

Others:

  • Linebacker: Roquan Smith, Baltimore Ravens, $20M
  • Kicker: Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens, $6M
  • Fullback: Kyle Juszcyk, San Francisco 49ers, $4.6M
  • Punter: Michael Dickson, Seattle Seahawks, $3.68M
  • Long Snapper: Luke Rhodes, Indianapolis Colts, $1.62M

From record-breaking quarterbacks to lockdown defenders, the NFL’s highest-paid players are difference-makers.

Top 5 NFL 2020 Highest Paid Players Expert Analysis

Previous Betting News

In the salary cap era, teams need to be very careful about how they spend their money. There is nothing worse than rewarding a player with a huge salary, only to have them turn around and stink up the joint for years to come. It’s a risk that teams need to take, though, as letting that player go and watching as they play at the highest level possible with another team is a bit of a nightmare scenario. With all of that in mind, we are going to take a look at the top 5 highest paid players in the league right now and decide whether or not that is money well spent. You might well be surprised at who is and isn’t on this list. Let’s jump right into action so you can later on go ahead and place your bets against our NFL odds.

Top 5 Highest paid NFL Players: Are they worth it?

Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs – Mahomes finished last season by hoisting the Lombardi Trophy after leading the Chiefs to a comeback win in the Super Bowl. He is the most exciting player in the league right now, although Lamar Jackson, who is not on this list, might argue with that notion. The Chiefs have a shot at building a dynasty here, assuming they can keep Mahomes in the fold. They took the steps to do that by handing him a 10-year $450 million contract in the offseason, $63 million of which is guaranteed. Yes, he is worth that much.

Russell Wilson – Seattle Seahawks – A 7-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl winner, Wilson is absolutely invaluable to the Seattle Seahawks. This is a player who is a game changer in every sense of the word, as he is a master at keeping plays alive with his feet, while also being able to stand in the pocket and pick teams apart. In 2019, Seattle rewarded him with a 4-year $140 million contract extension that will keep him with the Seahawks through 2023.

Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers – It might come as a surprise to many to see Big Ben this high up on the list, but should it be that way. This is a player who has delivered a pair of Super Bowl titles to the Steel City and who has put up some gaudy stats over the course of his career. He has, though, had injury issues and missed the majority of 2019 with an elbow injury. He has looked good on his return, leading the Steelers to a 2-0 record to start the season. He has earned this salary, but whether he is worth it at this point will likely be revealed this season.

Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers – Rodgers is signed to the Packers through 2023 on a contract that pays him $33.5 million per year. There have been some diminishing returns from Rodgers in recent seasons, although that is certainly not all his fault given his surrounding cast. Whether he will still be in Green Bay in 2023 remains to be seen, as the Packers moved up in the draft to land a QB. Rodgers has been lights out through the opening 2 weeks of the season, as though trying to prove a point.

Jared Goff – LA Rams – When you take a team to the Super Bowl, you stock instantly rises, which is what happened with Jared Goff. He was given a 4-year $134 million deal back in 2019 after taking the Rams to the Championship game, but you do have to question whether or not he is worth that type of money. Goff is good, but is he really in the same league as the elite QB’s in this league? Time will tell.
