Arizona leads 2-1 as the teams played right before the All-Star break. The D’backs won the first game 2-1. Nick Ahmed hit a tiebreaking single in the seventh after Zack Godley allowed a run over six innings. Brad Boxberger struck out the side in the ninth. Braves right-hander Anibal Sanchez also was sharp, allowing a run and five hits in six innings. He goes in this game. The Snakes took Game 2 3-0. Zack Greinke, who starts here, allowed only four hits in 7.2 innings. Greinke had seven strikeouts, did not walk a batter and allowed no more than one baserunner in an inning. Boxberger had another save. Atlanta avoided a sweep with a 5-1 win in the finale. Julio Teheran pitched six-plus scoreless innings. The Braves scored four runs in the second inning.

Why Bet on Atlanta?

The Braves lead the NL East but are in a bit of a slump after being swept three games at home to open this week by Boston – although there’s no shame in losing to the Red Sox. One bright spot in Wednesday’s 9-8 loss was rookie sensation Ronald Acuna hit yet another leadoff homer. It was his eighth leadoff home run of the season, a franchise record. Marquis Grissom previously held that mark with seven, and he had about three times the chances compared to Acuna. The 20-year-old Acuna also drew two walks and now boasts a .929 OPS, 24 home runs, 51 RBI, 11 stolen bases, and 62 runs scored through his first 88 major league games. He’s your NL Rookie of the Year. Shortstop Dansby Swanson (head) was not in the Braves’ starting lineup on Wednesday. Swanson was pulled from Tuesday night’s tilt after getting hit in the helmet by a pitch. He passed an initial round of concussion tests but it may take a few days. All-Star 1B Freddie Freeman got Wednesday but should be in there Thursday. It’s Sanchez (6-5, 2.98) here. Sanchez allowed two runs (one earned) in 5 1/3 innings and did not factor into the decision against the Pirates on Friday. He allowed an RBI-single to Elias Diaz in the second and a run-scoring single to David Freese in the sixth. He struck out six, walked one and yielded five hits total. He has 106 strikeouts and 33 walks in 108 2/3 innings. It’s been a terrific turnaround for the veteran hurler, who had a 6.41 ERA last year and a 5.87 mark the year before that. The veteran right-hander has slashed his homer-per-nine-innings rate from 2.2 in 2017 to 1.1 this year.

Why Bet on Arizona?

The Snakes had a rare Wednesday off after splitting two games at home to start this week with the Padres – Tuesday’s 6-0 ended Arizona’s four-game losing streak in which it scored exactly two runs in each. Ketel Marte went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base in that win. Marte extended the Arizona lead with an RBI sacrifice fly versus Padres starter Joey Lucchesi in the second inning. He also singled, swiped third base — his fifth of the year — and came around to score a run on a wild pitch. Marte is hitting .251/.322/.410 with 60 runs scored, 10 homers, 46 RBI and five steals. Braves at Diamondbacks should be a victory for the Snakes. Arizona is without outfielder Jarrod Dyson. He will be reevaluated after experiencing renewed discomfort during his rehab assignment. It appeared that Dyson was on the verge of a return, but now his status is in question. The veteran outfielder has been out since early July due to a groin issue (yikes!). It’s the Arizona ace Greinke (13-9, 2.97). He took the loss against the Dodgers on Friday, giving up three earned runs on six hits over 7.1 innings. He struck out five and walked one in Arizona’s eventual 3-2 defeat. Greinke ended with a solid final line and worked deep into the game, but he was denied his 14th win as the Diamondbacks couldn’t muster up much run support. Greinke just 1-4 over his last six starts but is putting together a fine season overall. Greinke has pitched better at Chase Field this year, allowing two or fewer runs in 13 of his 14 starts at home.
