Last Season

Pittsburgh swept last year. It was 29-14 in the first meeting in the Steel City. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 224 yards and two scores, and Le’Veon Bell added 192 total yards and Pittsburgh’s defense dominated the Bengals in the second half. Pittsburgh held the Bengals to 19 yards over the final two quarters, intercepting Andy Dalton twice and sacking him four times. Bell, of course, is away from the Steelers right now.

In Cincinnati, the Steelers won 23-20, rallying from down 17-0. Antonio Brown’s touchdown tied it at 20 with 3:51 to go — safety George Iloka was penalized for hitting him in the head after the catch. Chris Boswell won it with a 38-yard field goal as time expired. The Bengals have dropped six straight and nine of 10 against Pittsburgh.

Why Bet on Pittsburgh?

The Steelers played their best all-around game of the season Sunday in routing the Falcons 41-17. Ben Roethlisberger completed 19-of-29 passes for 250 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Roethlisberger was on track for a disappointing day before he finally got working with Antonio Brown. After entering the break 2-of-8 for eight yards and an interception targeting his No. 1 wideout, Ben found Brown six times for 93 yards and two scores over the final two quarters.

Antonio Brown caught 6-of-13 targets for 101 yards and those two scores. The 100-yard game was Brown’s first of the season.

Pittsburgh running back James Conner, who is taking Le’Veon Bell’s place, rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns and had four catches for 75 yards in the win. Conner, who had 135 rushing yards, 60 receiving yards and two rushing touchdowns against Cleveland in Week 1, joined Hall of Famer Jim Brown (1963) as the only players with multiple games with at least 100 rushing yards, 50 receiving yards and two rushing touchdowns in their team’s first five games of a season.

Conner, who is in his second professional season, joined Chris Johnson (2009) as the only first or second-year players in NFL history with multiple games of 100+ rushing yards, 50+ receiving yards and two or more rushing touchdowns in a single season.

Speaking Tuesday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said the team would be sticking with Chris Boswell at kicker. Boswell continued to struggle Sunday, missing an extra point. He’s missed three on the year and is just 3-of-6 on field goal attempts. The Steelers gave him a four-year extension in August.

Why Bet on Cincinnati?

The Bengals rallied from 17-0 down in the third last week to beat Miami 27-17 to take sole possession of first in the AFC North. Michael Johnson returned an interception for the tying score, and Sam Hubbard went 19 yards with a fumble for the clinching touchdown Sunday. Cincinnati defensive tackle Geno Atkins had two sacks in the Bengals’ Week 5 win and is tied for the NFL lead with six sacks this season.

Andy Dalton completed 20-of-30 passes for 248 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Dalton’s only touchdown was a broken play where he hit Joe Mixon in the end-zone on a back-shoulder throw. He was picked trying to force a pass in the red zone A.J. Green caught 6-of-10 targets for 112 yards. Green broke the Bengals record with his 32nd 100-yard game. Green was held out of the end-zone against a Dolphins defense that leads the league in red-zone defense. Green is still tied for second in the NFL with five touchdown receptions in 2018.

Steelers at Bengals should be an offensive showdown.

Joe Mixon rushed 22 times for 93 yards and caught 3-of-4 passes for 22 yards and a touchdown. Mixon was held in check on the ground before ripping a 31-yard fourth quarter run. He caught an underthrown red-zone pass from Dalton for the Bengals’ only offensive touchdown.

Sunday’s win marked the second time in Bengals history they outscored a team by 24 points in the fourth quarter. The Bengals are now 4-128 in franchise history when down 14-plus points entering the fourth quarter.

“The one thing they do is just keep playing, and you can’t take that away from them,” said Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. “They just keep playing. They just trust each other. ‘Just settle it down, do your thing, get your eyes where they belong and run with your feet and your brain.’ But obviously, they made plays down the stretch when it counted.”
