NFL Week 14 Betting Odds: Houston At Indianapolis

Written by on December 8, 2016

For several seasons now, we have all been talking about the parity in the NFL. Besides a couple of elite teams and a few perennial stinkers, we have a group of teams that could very well beat one another on any given Sunday. Nowhere is this parity more evident than in the AFC South, where there are 3 teams – Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Tennessee Titans – all sitting with a 6-6 record. The division race itself is intriguing, but it becomes even more so when you realize that given the current state of the Wild Card race in the AFC, only one of these teams is likely to make it into the postseason. The edge right now goes to the Texans, thanks to their 3-0 division record, but they could lose that this weekend when they face the Colts in Indianapolis. This is perhaps the most important game on the schedule this weekend because of those playoff implications, but it will almost certainly not decide anything, as this division is going down to the wire. The Colts will go in as a 6-point betting odds favorite.

Why bet on the Houston Texans

The big question that the Houston Texans need to answer right now is in regards to where their offense is going to come from. They have now lost 3 games in a row, and it’s fair to say that they have been firing blanks on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, this team hasn’t been particularly bad, but when your offense is only offering up about 15 PPG over that three-game stretch, you are pretty much having to play as close to perfect as possible. Houston did manage to win the first meeting of the year versus the Colts, and you have to believe that they will at least have to match the 26 points they scored on that day if they hope to win.

Why bet on the Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have won three of their last four games, and the one that they did drop was a tough match-up versus the Steelers on the road without Andrew Luck under center. This is not a team without its flaws, and they made several critical errors on Monday night versus the Jets that would quite possibly have been punished by a much better team. That aside, the Colts are on a good run right now, and they have covered the spread in each of the last 3 games with Luck at the QB position. With a win here, they could put their playoff fate in their own hands, which is all you can ask for at this late stage of the season.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

These are two teams that appear to be heading in totally different directions right now, and I just don’t think that the Texans offense can keep pace with that of the Colts.
