NFL Lines Week 3 Preseason Giants at Browns

The New York Giants know who their starting quarterback will be this season. The Cleveland Browns don’t know yet, but Monday night’s preseason home game could go a long way toward determining that answer. Here’s your betting odds preview for this preaseason as well as some NFL lines that will help you determine which ones are the favorites for Week 3.

Week 1 NFL Lines Results

New York opened the preseason at home and lost to the Steelers 20-12. Eli Manning didn’t play for the Giants. He should here, at least briefly.  Josh Johnson and Geno Smith had their ups and downs in the battle for the No. 2 job behind Manning. Johnson was 5 of 10 for 31 yards. Smith was 10 of 16 for 114. Neither got much protection from their line and running game (23 carries for 73 yards) offered little help. Giants WRs Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard did not play. Brandon Marshall played the first series. New York also rested DE Jason Pierre-Paul and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Cleveland beat visiting New Orleans 20-14. Rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer threw a late touchdown pass and the Browns rallied to win. Kizer was the most impressive of Cleveland’s three quarterbacks and completed a 45-yard TD pass to Jordan Payton with 1:52 left. He finished 11 for 18 for 154 yards. Brock Osweiler was 6-for-14 for 42 yards and Cody Kessler 5-for-10 for 47 yards. Pro Bowler Joe Thomas got the night off. He was replaced at left tackle by Cam Erving, who is battling Shon Coleman for the starting job on the right side.

Osweiler Gets Call

Osweiler started the opener for the Browns and he’ll start here, too, meaning it’s likely he’ll be the Week 1 guy in the regular season vs. Pittsburgh barring a horrible outing here.

“I still think right now, where we are, he deserves the opportunity to walk out there first,” said Coach Hue Jackson, who added Kizer will work with the second team, Kessler with the third team and Kevin Hogan with the fourth team. Jackson also emphasized this latest development “doesn’t mean anything for the regular season” as Cleveland continues to evaluate its signal callers and who might be the best fit to lead the team this fall. Jackson said he hasn’t decided how much Osweiler and the first-team offense will play Monday.

NFL Lines Cleveland continues to evaluate its signal callers and who might be the best fit to lead the team this fall.

Thomas has said that he does not think Kizer will be the opening day quarterback starter but that Jackson is preparing Osweiler to start against the Steelers.

Meanwhile, with Joel Bitonio out injured, John Greco moves into the starting lineup at left guard for Monday’s game against the Giants. With Cam Erving out due to injury and Thomas not playing, rookie Rod Johnson will start at left tackle.

Giants Injuries

Cornerback Eli Apple, the Giants’ first-round pick last year, is dealing with a minor ankle injury, but it’s enough to likely keep him out Monday. He might not be the only Giant unable to play in the second preseason game of the summer. Wide receivers Darius Powe (hamstring), Dwayne Harris (upper body) and Kevin Snead (lower leg) and linebacker Mark Herzlich (stinger) also missed practice this week.

Running back Shaun Draughn and linebacker J.T. Thomas were activated from the physically unable to perform list. But they were extremely limited participants in their first practices of the summer. It’s unlikely they will be ready for Monday night, but there is time for them to earn roles. Thomas has been sidelined since tearing his knee covering a kick in Week 1 last season against the Dallas Cowboys.

NFL Preseason Odds Saints Vs Chargers

Last Meeting

In the 2016 regular season, the Giants won in Cleveland 20-13. At the time, the Browns fell to 0-12. It was the first time in their history the Giants played a team that entered the game 0-11 or worse. Since the 1970 merger, they are 10-3 against teams that entered the game 0-4 or worse. The Giants sacked Cleveland quarterback Josh McCown seven times, their highest total since they had seven sacks in a victory against Washington on Dec. 14, 2014.

Manning completed 15 of 27 passes for 194 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Beckham, Jr. led the Giants with six receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns, on catches of 32 and four yards.

Game Trends

Browns are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Monday games. Cleveland Browns are 5-20-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall. Browns are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 home games.

Expert NFL Lines Prediction

Those trends say bet against Cleveland, but the Browns will play their starters enough for Osweiler and Kizer to be with them. Thus I like the Browns here.
