He was hit by a comebacker from Yuli Gurriel on the last out of the fourth, and Manager Joe Girardi said they lifted him as a precaution. Severino didn’t get a decision. Severino will join Waite Hoyt as the only pitchers in Yankees history to start four postseason games prior to turning 24 years old. The Yankees are the fourth team to face 0-2 deficits in consecutive postseason series and had become the first to tie both series at 2-2. Why Bet on Houston Astros?
This was the best offensive team in baseball this year by a wide margin but has lost three straight for the first time since Sept. 8-10. The offense went missing in New York. Houston went 11-for-92 (.120) with five extra-base hits, no home runs, and 25 strikeouts in the three games at Yankee Stadium. Verlander pitched in four elimination games in his career with the Tigers. They were Game 5 of the 2006 World Series; Game 5 of the 2011 ALCS; Game 5 of the 2012 Division Series; and Game 5 of the 2013 Division Series).
The Tigers lost the World Series game to the St. Louis Cardinals but won the other three. Verlander posted a 1.48 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings in those four appearances. He was particularly dominant in the past two, shutting out the A’s over a combined 17 innings. Verlander also earned the win in the Astros’ Game 4 clincher in this year’s ALDS against the Red Sox, but he did so in relief.
