The 2016 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl will take place on Friday, Dec. 23, live from Amon G. Carter Stadium on the campus of the TCU Horned Frogs, in Fort Worth, Texas. The 14th annual staging of this postseason bowl game will kick off at 4:30 PM ET and air live on ESPN.
This annual bowl game originated in 2003. Since its creation, the Armed Forces Bowl has featured conference tie-ins from the American Athletic Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference and Mountain West Conference.
The Armed Forces Bowl was also once called the PlainsCapital Fort Worth Bowl, the Fort Worth Bowl and more recently, the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. The Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl celebrated the 12th anniversary of its postseason college football bowl game on January 2, 2015. In that game, the Houston Cougars put together a mind blowing comeback, rallying from a 31-6 deficit to defeat Pittsburgh 35-34.
This year’s Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl will feature a bowl-eligible team from the U.S. Naval Academy (Navy) versus a school from the Big 12 Conference. In the 2015 Armed Forces Bowl, California lit up the scoreboard to beat Air Force 55-36 and cash in as a 5.5-point favorite while the game’s 91 combined points played well Over the 71.5-point total.
The favorite won and covered the spread in n five of the first six years this bowl game was played, but the underdog has risen up in recent years by bringing home the bacon in five of the last seven Armed Forces bowl games.
