Nearly a decade ago, back in the fall of 2007, a group of Orlando area business leaders and philanthropists wanted to bring a new college bowl game to Orlando and make it different by tying it directly to a charitable cause. Now, the second annual AutoNation Cure Bowl will get underway on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 5:30 PM ET, live from the Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The Cure Bowl will air on CBS television and will feature a matchup of teams from the American and Sunbelt conferences.
One year ago, San Jose State beat Georgia State 27-16 to cover the college football betting line as a 1-point underdog while the game’s final score played Under the 55.5-point Over/Under Total.
The AutoNation Cure Bowl will bring an estimated $20 million into the local economy. Proceeds from the Cure Bowl directly fund individual breast cancer researchers through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Educating college athletes from the participating teams and their fans about the importance of breast cancer research is one of the main goals of the AutoNation Cure Bowl. Last but certainly not least, presenting sponsor, Florida Hospital, will host a game day “Cure Village” at the Orlando Citrus Bowl where fans can receive mammogram screenings.
