2019 Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinals Odds & Preview

Fresh off a victory against the greatest women’s tennis player in history, Serena Williams, Karolina Pliskova must now battle 2018 U.S. Open Champion Naomi Osaka. Doesn’t seem fair for Pliskova, but you’ve got to step it up to win major tennis championships like the Australian Open.

In the other Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinal, Danielle Rose Collins hopes to pull off the upset over Petra Kvitova. Kvitova, like Pliskova and Osaka, is one of the top women’s tennis players in the world. Does Collins have any shot? Check out analysis and tennis odds for both Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinals!

2019 Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinals Preview

Petra Kvitova -435 vs Danielle Rose Collins +335

For a while during the Australian Open, Collins looked like the woman to beat. She took down Sachia Vickery 6-3, 7-5 before beating 19 Carolina Garcia 6-3, 6-2. After beating Garcia, Collins let it be known that she had a shot at winning the trophy.

She dominated 2 Angelique Kerber 6-0, 6-2. Kerber could only muster 2 wins, much less a set, versus the scorching Collins. But, then, in the quarterfinals, Danielle struggled against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Collins could only beat her after 3 sets and she lost the first set 2-6.

Petra Kvitova hasn’t run into a single road block on her way to the Australian Open Semis. She’s dominated every opponent she’s faced. In the 10 sets she’s played, she’s only lost more than 2 games in 4 of those. The single knock’s that she’s only beaten a single ranked opponent during the tournament.

That’s not much of a knock because Collins isn’t ranked. Kvitova makes quick work of Danielle.

Karolina Pliskova +130 vs Naomi Osaka -150

Serena Williams was up 5-1 before a called foot fault caused her to implode. Let’s not pretend that Pliskova had nothing to do with the great win, though. Karolina still had to come back down 1-5. Not only that, but Pliskova beat Williams 6-4 in the first set.

While Serena definitely imploded, it’s hard to see Osaka doing anything other than calmly playing great tennis on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. The U.S. Open champ disposed of 6 Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-1. She didn’t give Svitolina a break. What’s scary is that it was Osaka’s best performance during the tournament.

Although it won’t be easy, Osaka’s the bet. She’ll beat Pliskova in a hard fought 3 sets to put the Japanese player in a position to win her second straight major title this weekend.
