Swiss Indoors Past Champions

Part of the ATP 500 event schedule since 2009, the Swiss Indoors dates back to 1970, when it was played on carpet. It became part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit in 1977 and has since been won by the likes of Bjorn Borg 1977, Ivan Lendl 1980/81, John McEnroe 1990, and Pete Sampras 1996.

More recent champions include Marin Cilic and Roger Federer, who won his home event a remarkable ten times from 2006 to 2019. The event wasn’t held in 2020 or 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime won in 2022, defeating Rune in the final.

The Draw Breakdown

With 32 players in the field, there’s no automatic entry into the second round for the top seeds, which leaves plenty of intriguing first-round matches.

Top seed Rune has a tough first-round opponent in Miomir Kecmanovic, while second seed Casper Ruud has to beat Alexander Bublik.

Rune, who holds the eighth and final spot in the ATP Rankings for the right to compete in the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, lost to Kecmanovic last week in the Round of 16 in Stockholm.

Auger-Aliassime, Fritz, Andy Murray, and Stan Wawrinka are among the notable players in the top half of the draw with Rune. The bottom half of the draw also features Alex De Minaur, Hubert Hurkacz, and Nicolas Jarry.

Nicolas Jarry vs. Adrian Mannarino

ATP Odds: Nicolas Jarry +100; Adrian Mannarino -127

Both Jarry and Mannarino are coming off of quarter final appearances in their most recent tournaments. Jarry lost in the quarters of the Shanghai Masters to Grigor Dimitrov, while Mannarino lost to eventual champion Gael Monfils in the quarters of the Stockholm Open. They’ve never played each other on the ATP Tour.

Mannarino, world No. 24, is 38-21 this season with two titles. He’s 10-1 indoors this season, which should give him the edge over Jarry, who is world No. 21, is 36-17, also with two titles this season. He’s just 2-1 indoors and 13-7 on hard courts.

Jan-Lennard Struff vs. Christopher Eubanks

ATP Odds: Jan-Lennard Struff -151; Christopher Eubanks +118

American Christopher Eubanks has fallen back to reality since reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, but he’s still a threat to win in every match in which he participates. He’s 1-2 in his last three matches but lost to Ruud and eventual Stockholm Open finalist Pavel Kotov.

Struff, however, hasn’t been any better. He has lost four in a row and six of his last eight. He has never played Eubanks and is 2-3 this season on indoor hard courts. There’s certainly some great value here with Eubanks at plus-money.
