In the early part of the season, it looked as though we might be in for a great battle for the F1 World Championship, but cream always seems to find a way to rise to the top. Instead of getting sucked into a battle, Verstappen found a way to move up a gear and has now won each of the last 4 races to take a commanding lead at the top of the driver standings. In fact, he has not finished worse than 2nd all season long, so it is now beginning to look inevitable that he will complete the three-peat sooner rather than later. He finished 2nd in this race last year, as well as winning it the year prior, so expect more of the same.

Fernando Alonso (+760)

While we are all somewhat resigned to the fact that Verstappen is once again going to run away with the championship, there are still some very good stories to follow in Formula 1. There may be no better story this season than the one that Alonso is telling. He won back-to-back World Championships in the 2005 and 2006 seasons, but he hasn’t been much of a factor for the past decade or so. He may not win it all again this season, but his return to form has been nothing short of fantastic, with 3 podium finishes to his name. A top 3 finish might not be a bad bet here.

No F1 driver wants to be considered second fiddle in the team they race for, but that is what Perez is going to need to settle for as long as he is teamed up with Verstappen in Red Bull Racing. Perez did make things very interesting at the start of the season, but he has cooled off of late and has failed to make the podium in each of his last 3 races. He was forced to retire in Austria last season, so playing him here makes me a little nervous.

Lewis Hamilton (+980)

Red Bull Racing are now the dominant force in Formula 1, taking the throne from Mercedes, and in turn making Hamilton suddenly look human. It has been a long stretch of races since Hamilton has taken a checkered flag, and as long as Mercedes continues to trail Red Bull, it may stay that way a little longer. A top 3 finish might be the best bet available for Hamilton right now.
