Favorites to Win
The soon-to-be 44-year old Californian has recorded all three of his wins this season since taking the checkered flag in New Hampshire on July 21. Harvick won at The Brickyard on September 8 and finished second at Richmond a week later. Harvick has also won at Kansas three times in his career, most recently, in the spring race of 2018. Currently in sixth place in the playoff standings, a win here would be huge for the widely respected veteran driver.
Martin Truex Jr.
The 39-year-old Truex Jr. sits in fourth place in the playoff standings, but he’s also recorded a season-high six wins while going back-to-back in at Richmond and Las Vegas last month. Truex Jr. also has two career wins at Kansas Speedway by bagging both races on the track in 2017. No doubt, Truex Jr. will be motivated after finishing 26th at Talladega last weekend.
The 38-year-old Florida native has won four races this year to tie Kyle Busch for the second most victories in 2019. Hamlin’s last victory cane at Bristol in August, but he’s had a trio of top five finishes since then, including last weekend at Talladega. Hamlin took the checkered flag at Kansas in the spring of 2012 and currently sits in third place in the NASCAR playoff chase.
Elliott took home the checkered flag in this event a year ago at 22 years old, making him the youngest Kansas winner in Monster Energy Series history. The victory was one of only five Kansas races won by a driver under 30. Elliott also won at Charlotte on September 29 while finishing eighth at Talladega a week ago. Right now, Elliott will be seriously motivated for a win as he sits in 10th place in the NASCAR playoff chase, two spots of out qualifying for the final eight.
Busch has four victories on the year, but the 34-year-old Las Vegas native has not won since taking the checkered flag at Pocono in June. Busch also finished an uninspiring 19t last weekend at Talladega, although he did finish sixth at Dover the week before and second at Richmond two races prior to that in September. While Busch has just one career win at Kansas and that came in the spring of 2016, I believe he’s going to challenge for the win this coming weekend.
