When did Kanye announce he was running for President?

Kanye does nothing without flair. He’s got a genius-level creative mind. So, he announced he was running for President on the nation’s birthday, July 4. Here’s Kanye’s direct tweet:

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.”

It’s a good tweet. If Kanye’s serious, he’s got a tough hill to climb. He’s missed the deadline in most states to run as an independent. So, there’s a good chance he doesn’t get on most state ballots.

Not that it matters. If West wants to start a campaign and run for President, he’ll find a way to do it. Kanye is nothing if not determined.

Why did odds change on Trump and Biden after Kanye announced he was running?

West’s announcement immediately changed the Presidential odds on Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Sleepy Joe remains the favorite at -150. But his current odds rose 10 points from -160.

The Don’s odds dropped significantly. Just last week, Trump was at +160. He’s now at +100.

Why? Kanye West feels the Democratic party abandoned the black community. He’s not the only one. Not only that, but the Democrat Presidential candidate always relies heavily on the non-white male demographic. That includes all minority groups as well as women.

Trump heavily relied on working class whites to beat Hillary Clinton in the last election. His backers won’t flee to Kanye. Biden’s may depending on what Kanye says about Biden’s plans for the nation.

Will Kanye’s campaign cause future odds changes?

It could. But it will be tough for Kanye to get a campaign going so late in the game. Right now, he’s not overly serious. Three days have past and West has said nothing about who his campaign manager is, or whether he’s gathered support and from whom.

Kanye has done nothing that a serious U.S. Presidential candidate does. So, we shouldn’t hold our breath that West was serious with his July 4 tweet.

But, maybe, he doesn’t have to be serious about winning the Presidency. If all Kanye does is walk around the country debating Joe Biden about what’s best for the black community, he will affect the odds.

Be sure that underdog Donald is definitely hoping for that!
