With the PGA Tour set to switch coasts this week as they go from sunny California to the Sunshine State of Florida, pro golf betting enthusiasts everywhere are gearing up for what looks like an exciting tournament that is offering a bunch of value – if you know where to look! The 2016 Honda Classic and its famed “Bear Trap” awaits the majority of the world’s best golfers when it gets underway on the Champion Course at the PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida from February 25-28, 2016. Now, let’s take a look at the odds for a handful of the top favorites, starting with favorites, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler.
Best PGA Picks To Win the Honda Classic
1. Rory McIlroy – 11/2McIlroy is the betting favorite to win the 2016 Honda Classic this week at 11/2 odds despite the fact that he just shot an uninspiring closing round of 75 last Sunday to ruin any chance he had of potentially winning the Northern Trust Open. McIlroy was -10 under and just a few strokes off the lead going into the final round but shot a +4 over and finished tied for 20th place in his first PGA Tournament of 2016. McIlroy did however, win the Honda Classic in 2012
2. Rickie Fowler – 12 to 1Fowler has not played since he finished second to Hideki Matsuyama at the Phoenix Open of February 4. Fowler has already won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship on January 24, 2016, for one win this calendar year to reach three PGA Tour wins in his career and two European Tour wins.
T-3. Hideki Matsuyama – 18 to 1Matsuyama won the Phoenix Open three weeks ago to record his second PGA Tour win by beating Fowler in a playoff. Matsuyama followed that victory up by finishing tied for 11th place at the Northern Trust Open last week.
T-3. Adam Scott – 18 to 1Adam Scott has some serious skills, but golf bettors should know that he has not won a tournament since May of 2014.
T-5. Phil Mickelson – 22 to 1Mickelson just missed getting into a playoff at Pebble Beach two weeks ago as he missed a short putt on the 18th hole that would have forced a playoff. Now, here is some brief tournament history followed by a look at some more odds to win the 2016 Honda Classic. The Honda Classic “Bear Trap,” is a gruesome three-hole stretch that starts with the par-3 15th hole and also includes the par-4 16th and the par-3 17th. Jack Nicklaus has the most Honda Classic wins of any golfer with three (1976, 77, 78). Nicklaus beat Gary Player by five shots in his 1977 t record the largest margin of victory at the Honda Classic. Camilo Villegas matched that margin in 2010, beating runner-up Anthony Kim by five strokes. Padraig Harrington ended a winless drought of almost seven years by beating 21-year-old Daniel Berger on the second hole of a playoff to win the Honda Classic in 2015. 11 ranked players are in the field this year, including No. 3 McIlroy and No. 5 Fowler, the reigning Players Championship winner.
