2020 Masters Expert Analysis – PGA Tour Odds & Picks

Written by on September 16, 2020

While the 2020-21 season is just getting underway and the 2020 U.S. Open is set to begin in short order, golf betting enthusiasts everywhere know it’s never too early to start looking ahead  – and this time – we’re going to keep our eyes on the biggest prize there is – the coveted Masters Championship. With the third major of the 2020 calendar year set to get underway on Thursday, November 9, live front the famed Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, let’s take a look back at what’s taken place there over the last few years before looking ahead to this year’s favorites, contenders and hell, even some pretenders. Normally held in April each year, the 2020 version has been scheduled for this fall because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Let’s take a closer look at this year’s event so you can start preparing your bets against their Masters odds.

Early 2020 Masters Tournament Preview & Highlights

Now, let’s take a look back at some of the most recent Masters winners and the odds they were listed at when they won their respective green jackets.

Past Five Winners

  • 2019 – Tiger Woods +1400
  • 2018 – Patrick Reed +5000
  • 2017 – Sergio Garcia +3000
  • 2016 – Danny Willett +5000
  • 2015 – Jordan Spieth +800

A year ago, the incomparable Tiger Woods pulled off a win for the ages by finishing with a score of 13-under 275. The victory gave Woods five green jackets and 15 career major titles and moved him to within three of Jack Nicklaus’ all-time record of 18.

Nicklaus holds the career mark for wins at Augusta with six, while Woods is second with five. The legendary Arnold Palmer has four wins at The Masters. In 2018, polarizing Texan Patrick Reed hoisted the hardware as a massive +5000 pick while veteran Spanaird Sergio Garcia won his first and only major in 2017 by pulling out a thrilling win.

In 2016 Englishman Danny Willett (what happened to him?) won his only major and one year earlier, Jordan Spieth claimed the green jacket by going wire-to-wire, although the superstardom that was predicted for him has never quite materialized.

Odds to Win 2020 Masters

  • Rory McIlroy +1000
  • Brooks Koepka +1100
  • Dustin Johnson +1200
  • Jon Rahm +1200
  • Justin Thomas +1200
  • Bryson Dechambeau +1600
  • Jordan Spieth +1600
  • Collin Morikawa +1800
  • Xander Schauffele +1800
  • Tiger Woods +1900
  • Patrick Cantlay +2200
  • Adam Scott +2700
  • Justin Rose +2700
  • Patrick Reed +2700
  • Tommy Fleetwood +2700
  • Webb Simpson +2700
  • Tony Finau +2900
  • Bubba Watson +3100
  • Hideki Matsuyama +3100
  • Jason Day +3300

Early Masters Predictions

I’m going to say that the prohibitive favorite, Rory McIlroy is going to have a decent chance to cash in, although I’ll pass on Brooks Koepka for a handful of reasons, starting with his big mouth and overconfidence.

My top three picks to win the 2020 Masters though are Dustin Johnson, after he finished T2 last year and T10 in 2018, T4 in 2016 and T6 in 2015. My No. 2 pick is Tiger Woods, simply because he seems to dial it up and put immense pressure on every other golfer whenever he appears at Augusta. Last, but not least, I’m feeling a big upset win could happen for Tony Finau after the 31-year-old Utah native finished T10 at Augusta in his only career appearance in 2018.
