With just one more week to go until the second major of the year, the Players Championship gets underway. The PGA Tour is heading to North Carolina for the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship. This tournament made its debut in 2003 and has one of the toughest finishes in all of golf, thanks to the aptly named Green Mile. This year, Rory McIlroy is the prohibitive Golf betting favorite at 7-1 after opening at 13-2 while Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler are tied as the No. 2 favorites at 10-1.

The legendary Tiger Woods will play in his first PGA event since the 2018 Masters and he’s a 25-1 pick after opening at 22-1 odds. Let’s check the best options for you to cash in!

Expert Golf Betting Prediction for 2018 Wells Fargo Championship

  • When: Thursday, May 3, 2018, 1:00 pm
  • Where: Quail Hollow Club
  • TV: GOLF, CBS

The Course

Quail Hollow is a 7,554-yard par 71 that is one of the toughest course on the PGA Tour and ranks more than a half-shot tougher than the renowned Augusta National. 2011 champion Lucas Glover is the only golfer to ever have posted all four rounds in the 60s at the course.

2017

Reigning champion Brian Harman is back to defend his title. A year ago, Harman got past World No. 1 Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez by a single stroke. However, the 2017 event was played at Eagle Point Golf Club. Thomas won the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow thanks to a stunning five birdies in his final 12 holes.

2018 Favorites

Justin Thomas

I have no idea why Thomas isn’t the favorite, seeing how he performed in his last visit to Quail Hollow.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy is ninth in scoring average, fifth in driving distance and seventh in eagles. He’s also the only player to win the Wells Fargo Championship more than once.

Rickie Fowler

He’s made 25 starts since his last tour win but has a quartet of runner-up finishes, including his last start at the Masters.

Brian Harman

Harman won this tournament a year ago and has produced top-25 finishes in two of his last three tournaments.

Tiger Woods

Sam Snead and Tiger Woods are the two winningest golfers in PGA TOUR history but Woods has just one win in the Tar Heel State among his 79 victories. Ironically, it came in 2007 at Quail Hollow. Woods, however, is making his first start in the event since 2012 and his first start in North Carolina since 2015.

One North Carolina resident who considers himself a “huge fan” of Woods is North Carolina Tar Heels head basketball coach Roy Williams. Earlier this year, Williams told media members that he gets regular updates on his smartphone whenever Tiger plays.

Tiger Woods look like a good Golf Betting pick for the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship.

“Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, to me, are the guys that I really have a great deal of respect for because they were the best and nobody had better focus, nobody had better work habits and all that,” Williams said. “I’m amazed by those kinds of guys.”

Tony Finau

Finau has recorded top-25 finishes in each of his last four tournaments including a sixth-place finish at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Webb Simpson

Simpson has top-25 finishes in four of his last six events and is coming off a fifth-place finish at the RBC Heritage.
