PGA Tour 2021 US Open Betting Update for the Weekend Play

Round two of the 121st U.S. Open is wrapping up at the South Course at Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla, CA. Friday was a long day for some players who needed to finish their first rounds in the morning after a delayed start to the opening round due to weather.

The projected cut as of writing this is at 4-over, with many notable professionals teetering on the line or outside of it. The top 60 players, including ties, on the leaderboard get through to the weekend. Let’s have a look at our latest PGA Tour betting update so you can get all set to keep betting against their US Open odds.

U.S. Open Updates and Weekend Preview – PGA Tour Betting

Oosthuizen, Henley Take 18 Hole Lead

Louis Oosthuizen and Russell Henley were your co-leaders after the first 18 holes of play. Henley was part of the morning wave, collecting six birdies and two bogeys on the card to set the bar for the afternoon players.

Oooshuizen, who won the 2010 Open Championship and has finished runner up in the other three majors, had just one bogey on the card with five birdies. The 38-year old included an impressive stretch of three-straight birdies on the 16th, 17th, and 18th holes.

Richard Bland Moves into Solo First

The 48-year old is playing in only his fourth major over his two-decade career. Bland looked in complete control in round 2, firing a 4-under, 67 to post back-to-back rounds under par.

In his 478th start, the English golfer won for the first time on the European Tour. The Betfred British Masters victory secured Bland a spot in the U.S. Open field, and he was the oldest first-time winner on the Euro Tour.

Star Power Moving on to the Weekend

A long list of star players will be teeing it up this weekend, including a handful of the World’s best near the top of the leaderboard. However, U.S. Open history will tell us that anything is possible on the weekend if you can get there.

Vegas favorite John Rahm scrambled all day up and down out of bunkers to finish at one-under and 3-under for the tournament. Defending U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau shook off some earlier bogeys to get himself under par and back to even for the tournament.

Rory McIlroy didn’t have his best stuff on Friday, finishing his second round at 2-over. As a result, McIlroy heads into the third round at one-over for the tournament and currently tied for 25th.

Dustin Johnson (+2), Hideki Matsuyama (+3), Patrick Cantlay (+3), Jordan Speith (+4), and Collin Morikawa (+4) are all safely within the current cutline as the afternoon wave gets going on the course.

What to Watch this Weekend

Typically, the USGA sets the course up a bit easier on Thursday and Friday to ease into the tournament and feel how the weather will affect the golf course. You can bet that the course will play a lot different on Saturday and Sunday as they ramp up the speed of the greens and choose challenging pin locations for players to hit to.

No lead is safe, and don’t be surprised if someone near the cut line makes a charge in the early wave of Saturday’s third round. Getting out early and posting a number may be beneficial as the wind is not nearly a factor as it has been in the afternoon.
