Belmont Park Picks for Friday, June 26

Race 3 – 2:23  pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Turf – $66,000 Allowance

5-year-old horse Personal Time could take top honors. The Malibu Moon sired runner goes back to Claude McGaughey after racing for Robert Medina in his last. McGaughey has a 4-3-3 record from 13 entrants at this meet. Not only that but there’s a chance Personal Time goes off at overlay odds.

That’s because Chad Brown trained Good Governance figures to go off at even money or less. Governance won at first asking. Then, as a 75 cents on the dollar favorite in its first against winners, Good Governance finished second by a neck. There’s no way horseplayers let this one offer more than 6/5 to win this. We must use in our exacta, but we can’t endorse for the win.

Archibald Kingsley Jr. trained Sherkali improved big time from the gelding’s first race in the U.S. to its second. Kingsley didn’t geld Sherkali until after the second race. If the snipping improves this one at all, it can win. So, consider for the top spot if the odds on Personal Time don’t attract.

  • Win: Personal Time
  • Place: Good Governance
  • Show: Sherkali

Race 7 – 4:32 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Inner Turf –$40,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

Rinaldi hasn’t raced since August 2019. But the James H. Bond trained runner can fire right off the bench. Rinaldi has never finished worse than fourth in all 4 of the gelding’s races. The fourth place finish happened in the Grade 3 Saranac at Saratoga last August. We’ll give this one a chance to win in its first off the extended layoff.

Worth a Shot hasn’t raced since November. Not only that but the gelded son of English Channel runs first time for trainer Horacio de Paz. The form before the layoff is outstanding, though. So, if you don’t think Rinaldi can get it done off the crazy long layoff, go with the horse running off the shorter layoff.

Trainer Cristophe Clement wins 22% with horses going turf to dirt. Duponts may like the grass more than he does the dirt. The runner has a win and a second from 3 races over the lawn. Also, Joel Rosario rides, which is always a plus.

  • Win: Rinaldi
  • Place: Worth a Shot
  • Show: Duponts

Race 8 – 5:04 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Turf – $75,000 Hessonite Stakes

Kid Is Frosty doesn’t fit the winning profile for this event. But, trainer Brad Cox has won at 40% at the current Belmont meet. Brad’s got a 6-2-2 record from 15 starters. The best thing about Kid Is Frosty is that she doesn’t look like the Hessonite Stakes winner. That means we could get overlay odds on a Brad Cox runner. How rare is that?

Wesley Ward sired 5-year-old mare Mentality is a serious player. The Freud sired runner has 4 wins from 6 races over Belmont’s turf. The likely chalk also has a 3-1-1 record at the distance. Respect.

Michelle Nevin saddles contender Hannah’s Smile. If the odds are right, consider for the top spot because Hannah has 3 wins, a second, and a third from 7 races over the Belmont sod. The 6-year-old mare is 4-of-7 at the distance.

  • Win: Kid Is Frosty
  • Place: Mentality
  • Show: Hannah’s Smile
