Gulfstream Park Picks for Saturday, April 25
Race 9 – 4:53 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Dirt – $75,000 Unbridled Stakes
If any horse beats the chalk, it will be one that runs close enough to Dr. Post to either overtake that one or keep that one from overtaking it. That pony in Race 9 is the Mike Maker trained Relentless Dancer. The Midshipmen sired colt has raced in the Grade 3 Holy Bull and Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby in his last two. Dancer is versatile enough to go to the lead or sit right off Dr. Post. Consider for the win if the top two choices don’t appeal.
Dr. Post raced like a world beater to break his maiden. The Todd Pletcher trainee looked like he could run 1 ½ miles without taking a breather. That’s how good he looked. But Post must try winners for the first time and there’s no telling if he wants any part of 1 1/16 miles.
Dale Romans trained Attachment Rate picks up Luis Saez, has speed, and should get a real nice trip. But Romans isn’t having a great meet while the Maker horse figures to be much faster early.
- Win: Relentless Dancer
- Place: Dr. Post
- Show: Attachment Rate
Race 10 – 5:25 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Turf – $35,000 Claiming
Sometimes a horse puts everything together. That could be the case with Crypto Gold. The Mike Maker trainee broke its maiden for $16k back on March 15. In its first against winners, Gold closed to win by ¾ of a length. The step up in class shouldn’t hurt this one if the gelding has gotten a taste for the wire.
Like Crypto Gold, New Year has also won its last 2 races. Santiago Gonzalez rode this one to the maiden score. New Year hasn’t raced since February. But the works are decent enough to make this one the second half of the exacta.
Noble Hope goes first time for trainer Michael Pino. The Maryland based horseman wins 17% first after the claim. If Hope runs back to his last, he’ll be in the mix for the show money.
- Win: Crypto Gold
- Place: New Year
- Show: Noble Hope
Race 11 – 5:57 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming
A few serious 4-year-olds show up in the eleventh on Saturday. Spinoff could go off the chalk. He’s not worth playing to win. The horse that is worth playing to win is Global Campaign. The super-fast son of Curlin is tailor-made for this 7 furlong distance. Campaign should take the lead and never look back on his way to his fourth win from 6 starts.
Rare Form figures to chase Global Campaign around the track. The Dale Romans trainee offers 10/1 on the morning line. Not bad for the only other horse with real early speed. The fact that Form cuts back in distance from 1 1/8 miles to 7 furlongs adds to the appeal.
Morning line chalk Soldado has won two in a row. Both those races were at lower levels than this $75,000 allowance optional claimer. The Pletcher trainee can get it done. Odds will be too short, and others are as strong if not stronger, though.
- Win: Global Campaign
- Place: Rare Form
- Show: Soldado
