Updated Look At The Latest 2016 Kentucky Derby Odds
In the early odds to win the 2016 Kentucky Derby, the unbeaten Nyquist is set as the early betting favorite at a price of +300. This comes as no surprise, as this colt that is trained by Doug O’Neill, who won the 2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness with I’ll Have Another, is flawless with seven career wins, including the victory in the $1 million Florida Derby on April 2. Nyquist is looking to become just the second colt in history of horse betting to sweep the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Kentucky Derby after Street Sense achieved the feat in 2007.
Earlier, Mohaymen had been the early betting favorite the 2016 Kentucky Derby odds at +225, thanks to his victories in the Holy Bull in January and the Fountain of Youth in February. Unfortunately, Mohaymen wasn’t able to match-up well with Nyquist in the Florida Derby, as he finished fourth, leading to a drop in his price to +800.
Other 2016 Kentucky Derby Favorites
Sitting just ahead of Mohaymen is Exaggerator, whose price improved to +750 in the Kentucky Derby wagers after winning the Santa Anita Derby two Saturdays ago. Exaggerator was the biggest mover of the week, given his price before the Santa Anita win was +3500. It remains to be seen how Exaggerator’s price will play out in the horse betting sportsbooks over the next couple of weeks. But after coming second to Nyquist in the San Vicente in February and third behind Danzing Candy and Mor Spirit in the San Felipe prior to the win at the Santa Anita Derby, you can be sure that Exaggerator—who is trained by the famous Keith Desormeaux—will be selling like hot cake in the sportsbetting lines between now and the start of April.
Mor Spirit, who came behind Exaggerator in the Santa Anita Derby, was unable to shorten his odds, drifting from +900 odds to win Kentucky Derby in March to a current price of +1500. Danzing Candy, who settled for fourth in the Santa Anita Derby, was also not able to improve his price, moving from +1200 on April 6 up to +2200 in the current odds.
Gun Runner, winner of the Louisiana Derby on March 26, will enter the Kentucky off a six-week break, is among the colts getting most action in the Kentucky Derby odds, sporting a favorable price of +1200.
