Horse Racing Picks for Oaklawn Park on March 26

Race 3 – 3:26 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – Claiming $16,000

It’s not a good sign when it takes 20 races for a horse to break its maiden. That’s what Laneys Love did in her last race. But, sometimes, an equine puts it all together. She blitzed that field by 4 ½ lengths. If she decided she’s a runner, she could repeat that effort here. There’s enough speed to set her up.

Jockey Luis Quinonez sticks with Shady Grove sired 3-year-old filly Cinafrijole even though that one lost by 6 ¾ lengths in her last. The loss makes sense. It was Cinafrijole’s first after the maiden win. Anything close to the maiden run could put this 12/1 morning line Horse Racing Odds runner into the winner’s circle.

Michelle’s Grace has run a couple of decent races. She finished second 2 back and won by a nose in her last. There’s enough speed in this to set up her closing run, which means we can’t discount for the win.

  • Win: Laneys Love
  • Place: Cinafrijole
  • Show: Michelle’s Grace

Race 5 – 4:23 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Dirt – Claiming $10,000

We always want to beat chalk but when chalk slaps us in the face, we must pay attention. The Tom Amoss trained Napolean’s Empire just slapped us in the face. Amoss drops this 4-year-old gelding from a $34,000nx1 at Delaware into this claiming race. As you might expect, this is not a great field. Empire should jog.

Trainer John Ortiz puts blinkers back on Peppered. Ortiz has won 3-of-10 with the move. Peppered also takes a drop in class. If the blinkers work, the gelding should be in the top flight as they turn for home.

Hesluck tries winners for the first time. Trainer Stanley Roberts wins 22% with his last out maiden winners. There’s a chance only Napolian’s Empire gets to Hesluck if the blinkers don’t work on Peppered. Make sure to add Hesluck to the exacta as well as the tri.

  • Win: Napolean’s Empire
  • Place: Peppered
  • Show: Hesluck

Race 8 – 5:51 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – Allowance OC $62,500

Is there any racetrack where Robertino Diodoro doesn’t win? The trainer has a 50% winning record at Will Rogers Downs. His win percentage at Oaklawn is 30%. On Thursday, he saddles Silver Ride, a 4/1 morning line choice. Grab the 4/1 Horse Racing Odds on the Diodoro runner.

Diodoro also saddles 3/1 morning line choice Candy Cornell. This Candy Ride runner should win on Thursday. But, the horse has busted 3 great speed ratings in his last 3 races. That’s a sign that he might be over the top.

Seven Nation Army has 2 wins, 2 seconds, and a third from 8 races over Oaklawn’s dirt. The Ron Moquett runner is also 3-3-1 from 13 races at the distance. Use in all exotics.

  • Win: Silver Ride
  • Place: Candy Cornell
  • Show: Seven Nation Army
