Will Rogers Downs has a nice 9-race card on Wednesday, April 1. The top allowance race doesn’t offer much value. That’s why we’ve handicapped and made picks for 3 claiming races. Will Rogers Downs Picks for Wednesday, April 1
Race 4 – 3:45 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $5,000 Starter Optional Claiming
Trainer Danny Pish saddles 5/2 on the morning line Horse Racing Odds Soaring Now. The 6-year-old mare daughter of Tiznow heads into this optional-claimer after running primarily at the Fair Grounds. She’s in decent enough form to pull off the upset win against chalk Magic in Motion GP.
That one’s trainer, Karl Broberg, won his first race of the meet on Monday. Magic in Motion GP has 4 wins from 8 races at Will Rogers Downs and should get an easy lead. But Motion GP will offer underlay odds to win and Soaring Now is no joke.
Seynatawnee could get a nice trip if someone goes with Magic in Motion GP. However, this one can’t make it’s own trip like Soaring Now, meaning that if nobody runs with Motion GP, the win chances dramatically fall. It’s best to use this runner on the bottom of exotics.
- Win: Soaring Now
- Place: Motion GP
- Show: Seynatawnee
Race 7 – 5:15 pm ET – 5 ½ Furlongs Dirt – $7,500 Claiming
We’ll get more than the 3/1 morning line Horse Racing Odds on Royal Soprano. Trainer Timothy Martin has won with 5% of his runners this year. Jockey Jason Eads has won races at 3%. WRD handicappers will shun this guy and pound the two Robertino Diodoro runners. But Soprano has a massive pace edge in this race. Also, Martin put some fast works into this 4-year-old filly.
Of the two Diodoro runners, Dial Em In looks better than Very Boisterous. Dial Em In comes off a great win at 6 furlongs over this track in the slop. If it comes up muddy on Wednesday, we won’t get anything close to the 5/2 morning line. Heck, we might not get 5/2 if it’s sunny and the track is fast. Best to use this one on the bottom of the exacta because there’s a chance Dial Em In bounces.
Trainer Teresa Luneak has 1 win from 12 runners at this meet. Luneak wins 32% second off a layoff, which is the situation for 15/1 morning line Veiled in Gold. Expect Gold to get lost in the betting. So, consider a small win wager while also playing on the bottom of exotic tickets.
- Win: Royal Soprano
- Place: Dial Em In
- Show: Veiled in Gold
Horse Racing Odds & Pick Race 9 – 6:15 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $5,000 Starter Optional Claiming
Trainer Jon Arnett is tearing it up at Will Rogers Downs. He’s got 3 wins, a second, and a third from 6 runners. Arnett saddles L.A. Tower in Race 8. The winner of more than $144K takes a steep drop from the $15,000 optional claiming level. Tower might hold its odds because Blue Bomber is in this race.
Speaking of Blue Bomber, it’s tough to look past the 9-year-old-gelding. Not only is Bomber a Diodoro runner, but it has 3 wins and a second in its last 4 races. Blue Bomber also has 4 wins and a second in 5 races at the distance.
Lindante should finish no worse than third. The Broberg trainee finished third in an allowance at Sam Houston in its last. Consider for the win if both L.A. Tower and Blue Bomber are bet below 2/1 Horse Racing Odds.
- Win: L.A. Tower
- Place: Blue Bomber
- Show: Lindante
