Win, Place, Show Picks Betting at 2015 Belmont Stakes

Belmont Stakes racing is set for this coming Saturday at Belmont Park in New York and American Pharoah has the opportunity to win the Triple Crown, which would be the first time that has happened since 1978. Given that there is a chance for history to be made, you can count on the fact that there is sure to be a huge global TV audience. People who would ordinarily not care much about horse racing will be tuning in alongside the die-hard thoroughbred racing fans. No matter where you fall in those groups, we can guarantee that the race will be a whole lot more fun if you have a little bit of money riding on the outcome.

A Closer Look at the Win, Place, Show Picks Betting at 2015 Belmont Stakes

If you are looking for a simple bet to put a few bucks on, you should probably go with either the win, place, or show bets. With a “WIN” bet, you are placing money on who you believe will finish first. A “PLACE” bet will get you some money back if your horse finishes in the top 2, while a “SHOW” bet will win you money if your chosen horse places in the top 3. It’s worth noting that place and show bets only pay out on a fraction of the starting price of the horse you choose. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some potential bets in each category.

I really do believe we will see a Triple Crown winner this Saturday, which is why the WIN bet has to go on American Pharoah. Not only did he look great winning the Kentucky Derby, he blew them all away in the Preakness on an off (wet) track. The mile and a half distance has done in many horses in the past, but American Pharoah looked very strong at the end of the first two legs of the Triple Crown, so there is no reason to believe he can’t handle the extra distance. Frosted had a good run in the Derby, and should be fresh after sitting out the Preakness, so he may also be an option for the WIN.

Some Final Betting Thoughts

As far as the PLACE bets go, I like Frosted or Materiality to get in there for second. If you want to hedge your bets a little, you might also consider putting a place bet on American Pharoah, just in case the upset hits. The two place bets are also a decent bet for the SHOW ticket, but you might look for some value by going with one of the longer priced horses. Look for one that is a big closer, as this type of horse usually gets up into the mix in longer races like this.
