Can the Tampa Bay Rays keep up the impressive play that has them sitting at the top of the AL East right now? Can the Pittsburgh Pirates get a win this coming week to snap out of their ugly funk? Will Cody Bellinger blast a few more long balls before the end of the month to extend his record-setting April?
If you’ve got questions, then I’ve got answers in the form of this week’s MLB betting picks of the Week!

Tampa Bay (18-9) at Kansas City (9-19)
- When: Monday, April 29 at 8:15 PM ET
- Where: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, MO
Tampa Bay has won two straight and four of five coming into this series. The Rays got past division rival Boston 5-2 on Sunday and have gone a stellar 9-2 on the road this season. Tampa Bay ranks first in team ERA (2.95) and really, the Rays have been nothing short of outstanding defensively and on the mound this year.
On the flip side of the coin, Kansas City has lost seven of nine including a humbling 7-3 loss to the L.A. Angels on Sunday. While the Royals rank an uninspiring 19th in scoring (4.54 rpg) and 26t in team ERA (5.30) they did manage to snap a nine-game losing streak against Tampa Bay by taking the finale of a three-game set against the Rays last Wednesday.
Right-hander Ryne Stanek (0-0, 1.32 ERA) will take the mound for Tampa Bay looking to record his first win although he’s been lights out in a handful of starts and relief appearances this season. Kansas City will counter with right-hander Brad Keller (2-2, 3.41 ERA) who allowed five earned runs in his last start.
MLB Betting Pick: Tampa Bay 6 Kansas City 2
Pittsburgh (12-14) at Texas (14-13)
- When: Tuesday, April 30 at 8:05 PM ET
- Where: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, TX
Pittsburgh has dropped eight straight and hasn’t won a game since they took out San Francisco on 4/20, not that I’m going to start making hemp-related jokes about the Pirates or anything. All jokes aside, Pittsburgh is averaging a pitiful 3.23 runs per game to rank 28th in scoring and that virtually cancels out the mostly fantastic pitching that has their team ERA (3.60) ranking a stellar sixth as we head into the new week. For Texas, they’ve been the polar opposite of Pittsburgh in ranking a stupendous first in scoring (6.00 rpg), but a disturbing 29th in team ERA (5.50).
Pittsburgh will hand the ball to right-hander Jordan Lyles (2-1, 2.05 ERA) while Texas counters with right-hander Adrian Sampson ()-1, 4.50 ERA). With Lyles getting touched up for four earned runs in his last start and Sampson desperate for a win, I say back Texas to improve on their blistering 10-4 mark at home this season.
MLB Betting Pick: Texas 6 Pittsburgh 3
LA Dodgers (19-11) at San Diego Padres (16-12)
- When: Friday, May 3 at 10:10 PM ET
- Where: PETCO Park, San Diego, CA
The Padres will host the NL West division rival Dodgers in the opener of a three-game set on Friday. Los Angeles has won four straight heading into the new week and Bellinger has tied Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich for the most home runs in the month of April in MLB history with a mind-boggling 14.
San Diego had won five straight until seeing their winning ways come to an abrupt end in Sunday’s hard-fought 7-6 loss to Washington. While the Padres are struggling to scoring runs by ranking 26th in scoring (3.64 ERA), they’ve also gotten some surprising pitching out of their staff which is why they rank an encouraging seventh in team ERA (3.63).
L.A. will hand the ball to staff ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw (1-0, 2.25 ERA) in this one while San Diego counters with southpaw starter Joey Lucchesi (3-2, 4.94 ERA). With an offense that ranks seventh in scoring (5.40 rpg) and a pitching staff that ranks 10th in team ERA (3.98), I’m going to say I like L.A. to improve on their 7-1 mark against San Diego in their last eight meetings.
MLB Betting Pick: Dodgers 5 Padres 3
