AL MLB Weekend Picks - July 7th to 8th

AL MLB Weekend Picks – July 7th to 8th

Written by on July 4, 2018

This year, the true baseball power appears to be in the American League. Four teams in the AL offer less than double-digit odds to win the 2018 World Series. On Saturday, one of those teams, the New York Yankees, battle the rival Toronto Blue Jays on the road. The other Saturday game we analyze is an MLB Interleague matchup between the two Los Angeles squads, the Angels and Dodgers. Sunday’s AL games are Oakland A’s at Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox at Kansas City Royals.

AL MLB Weekend Picks

Saturday, July 7

New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays

The Yankees have listed ace Luis Severino as their Saturday starter. Severino last faced Toronto on April 22. He dominated the Blue Jays when only allowing a single earned run off 3 hits in 7 innings. Severino, for the most part, has dominated every team he’s faced. He’s the reason the Yankees are favored to win the World Series. The only two times the Yankees have lost when Luis has started was on April 10 against the Boston Red Sox and on June 10 against the New York Mets. The Yankees should dominate Toronto on July 7. A 4 or 5 run New York Yankees’ win looks like a foregone conclusion. MLB Betting Pick: New York Yankees

L.A.  Dodgers at L.A. Angels

More than a few baseball fans will be interested in Dodgers versus Angels on Saturday. The Angels start Deck McGuire. McGuire has started a single game as a Los Angeles Angel. His ERA is 7.56. He’s a converted reliever. It’s difficult to see McGuire having success versus the Dodgers’. The key is how well Ross Stripling pitches against the Angels. Can Stripling keep the Angels at bay? I’m not so sure. The Angels have some power. This might be a throwaway game for both teams, meaning that neither manager will sell out his bullpen for the win. The Angels are the team to back because Stripling and the Dodgers will be favored. MLB Betting Pick: L.A. Angels

Sunday, July 8

Are the Athletics a safe bet this weekend in the MLB?

Oakland A’s at Cleveland Indians

The Tribe sends ace Corey Kluber to the mound in their July 8 battle with the Oakland A’s. Kluber’s 2.64 ERA and 12 and 4 record are what you’d expect from the Cy Young winner. Kluber’s pitched great versus the Oakland Athletics. The A’s bat .169 versus Corey Kluber. They’ve got 11 hits from 65 at-bats. 3 of those hits have been home runs, though. Does that mean the A’s have a shot? It does. Frankie Montas, Oakland’s pitcher, didn’t have a terrible outing in his last versus the Tribe. Montas only lasted 5.2 innings. He also gave up 9 hits and 3 earned runs. But, he struck out 6. If he makes just a few adjustments, he could have a much better game against Cleveland on July 8. The A’s have a real chance to beat Cleveland and Kluber on Sunday. MLB Betting Pick: Oakland A’s

Boston Red Sox at Kansas City Royals

The reason the Red Sox are one of the favorites to win the 2018 World Series is because starters like Rick Porcello have rediscovered their best form. Porcello is 10 and 3 this season with a 3.57 ERA. His WHIP is an excellent 1.15. The Red Sox have won the last 3 games that Rick Porcello has started. Kansas City bats .244 versus Porcello, though. That’s not a bad team batting average versus a specific pitcher. Unfortunately, the KC Royals are 0 and 7 in Jakob Junis’ last 7 starts. The Red Sox should beat KC by 5 to 7 runs. MLB Betting Pick: Boston Red Sox
