This weekend what some believe the greatest rivalry in all of sports, Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees, takes place. Not surprisingly, Red Sox vs Yankees on Saturday and Red Sox vs Yankees on Sunday makes up two of the Top 3 American League MLB betting picks for the weekend.
Check it out!
Chris Sale has been everything the Boston Red Sox expected him to be after signing him away from the Chicago White Sox back before the 2017 MLB Season. Sale has a really good 2.56 ERA. His WHIP is an awesome .93. Sale has struck out 153 batters from 109 innings pitched. That’s an awesome strikeout per innings pitched ratio.
The Yankees counter Sale with Sonny Gray. Because New York’s ace is Luis Severino, the pressure is off Gray to be the man in the Big Apple. Gray has had his ups and downs this season. One thing to notice is that more often than not, he’s thrown well against Boston.
I believe Gray has a fantastic outing on Saturday while the Yankees get to Chris Sale. The New York Yankees are the play.

Houston Astros at Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays are desperate for starters. The desperation has gotten to the point where they’ve tried to turn reliever Matt Andriese into a starter. Andriese has a 4.02 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Those aren’t bad stats. The problem is that he’s still a reliever. In 3 starts, he hasn’t pitched more than 3.2 innings. But…look what happened in his last start versus the Astros? Even though Andriese allowed 3 earned runs off 4 hits in only 2.2 innings, the Rays only lost by a single run, 4 to 5. If Andriese steps it up, could the Rays be competitive in this? I’d write yes save for one issue. Houston starts the brilliant Justin Verlander on Saturday. Verlander is searching for another Cy Young. His ERA is 1.82. His WHIP is .81. The last time he faced the Rays, he was brilliant. Somehow, Tampa beat Houston 2 to 1 in that game. A repeat won’t happen on Saturday. I’m backing the Houston Astros.
