Baltimore Orioles at Chicago White Sox Saturday’s MLB Betting Preview

Posted by Alex Murphy on July 3, 2015 in

With the trade deadline approaching, you get the sense that when the teams at the top of their respective divisions play those who are already out of it, they look at the opposing players as potential additions once the trading commences. The Baltimore Orioles may well be looking to strengthen their team for the second half, while the Chicago White Sox may well be looking to sell. These two teams will meet in Chicago for a 3-game series, with game two set for Saturday afternoon, and here’s the MLB betting analysis for this match.

Here’s Our MLB Betting Preview of the Orioles at White Sox & TV Info

Time: Saturday July 4th, 12:20 p.m. ET
Venue: U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, Illinois
National TV: none
Opening line: Baltimore -137, Chicago +127

The Baltimore Orioles (42-37) made it to the top of the AL East by going on a run where they won 7 of 8 games. They have come crashing back down to Earth pretty hard, though, as they are now coming off a series where they lost 3 of 4 to the Texas Rangers. This seems to be the modus operandi for the division, as it appears that no-one really wants to win it. Baltimore is still clinging to the top spot, but only a single game separates them from the Toronto Blue Jays in fourth. The good news for the Orioles is that they have been getting stellar work from their pitching staff, with the bullpen in particular doing their part to keep the Orioles on top. Chris Tillman (6-7, 5.67 ERA) will get the start for the Orioles, who have won all four of his previous starts, during which he went 4-0.

The Chicago White Sox (34-42) have been incredibly disappointing this season, but are coming off a totally improbable sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals. That small victory is not likely to do much to quell the discontent of the White Sox fans, though. This is a team that came into the season with a lot of promise after a very busy offseason. Things have not gone as expected, though, and the White Sox are now deeply buried in the cellar of the AL Central, an insurmountable 10 games behind the Kansas City Royals. As I said at the start of this piece, all signs point to this team being sellers at the All-Star Break, as what they have in their line-up right now obviously isn’t working. It will be Jeff Samardzija (5-4, 4.56 ERA) who will be on the mound for the White Sox on Saturday.

Key Betting Trends

  • Baltimore is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games when playing Chi White Sox
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Baltimore’s last 6 games when playing on the road against Chi White Sox
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Chi White Sox’s last 5 games at home
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Chi White Sox’s last 6 games when playing at home against Baltimore

My MLB Betting Prediction

As fun as it was to see Chicago do the double over the Cardinals, there is little to suggest that the wins will be a catalyst for something bigger. I like the Orioles to get the win here, especially with Tillman in such a rich vein of form.
