Seattle Mariners (66-50) at Houston Astros (73-43)
When: Fri. Aug 10, 2018 7:10 PM Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX
Analysis: The Seattle Mariners are struggling like crazy right now, having lost seven of their last 10 games to fall into third place in the AL West behind the division-leading Astros and Oakland A’s. Houston is cruising along, having gone 6-4 in their last 10 games.
Seattle right-hander Mike Leake (8-7 4.16 ERA) has won two of his last three starts while not allowing more than three earned runs in each outing.
Houston right-hander Gerrit Cole (10-4, 2.64 ERA) has not allowed more than three earned runs in each of his last five starts, but the Astros have dropped two straight with him on the mound because they didn’t give him any run support.
Houston is playing at home against a division rival that would like nothing better than for the reigning World Series champs to stumble. The Astros have been better on the road this season than at home, but I like them to get the win in this one simply because they know Cole deserves a bit better than he’s gotten in his last couple of starts.
MLB Betting Pick: Houston 6 Oakland 3
Washington Nationals (59-56) at Chicago Cubs (66-48)
When: Sat. Aug 11, 2018 3:05 PM Where: Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL
Analysis: Washington has won seven of their last 10 games as they look to climb out of third place to challenge both, Atlanta and Philadelphia in the NL East. Chicago has gone 6-4 over their last 10 as they look to fend off a Milwaukee Brewers team that is just two games back in the NL Central.
Washington right-hander Tanner Roark (6-12, 4.21 ERA) has been absolutely phenomenal in each of his last two starts, tossing seven innings in each outing and not allowing more than one earned run.
Chicago left-hander Jon Lester (12-4) has gotten smacked around in each of his last two starts and gave up five earned runs on eight hits in a 10-6 loss to San Diego on Sunday. The way Roark and Lester are both throwing lately, this one’s an easy pick.
MLB Betting Pick: Washington 6 Chicago 3
Boston Red Sox (81-35) at Baltimore Orioles (35-80)
When: Sun. Aug 12, 2018 1:05 PM Where: Camden Yards, Baltimore, MD
Analysis: The Boston Red Sox are one fire MLB betting buffs! The BoSox have eight more victories than the second-best team in baseball this season and they’ve shown no signs of slowing up whatsoever. While Boston has won eight of its last 10, Baltimore has struggled in going 4-6 over the same span.
Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale (11-4, 2.04 ERA) is the runaway leader for the AL Cy Young award and he’ll make this start after not allowing a single run in each of his last three starts and five of his last six starts overall. Sale has limited the opposition to one run or less in eight of his last 10 starts overall.
Baltimore right-hander Alex Cobb (3-14, 5.55 ERA) has been rock-solid in limiting the opposition to just one earned run in each of his last two starts. Unfortunately for Cobb, Baltimore just keeps finding new ways to lose games. Cobb has given up one run or less in three of his last four starts and the O’s have lost three of those starts.
