Brewers Are MLB Betting Favorites vs DBacks on Tuesday
Not that long ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks were comfortably leading the NL West. But they are in a free-fall and have fallen out of first as of Tuesday. The Diamondbacks close a series in Milwaukee with a matinee on Wednesday. The Brewers are MLB betting favorites.

Why Bet on Arizona’s MLB Odds?
On May 8, the Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers 8-5 in 12 innings to go to 24-11 and with a four-game lead in the NL West. Entering Tuesday, they have just one victory since. The offense has completely fallen apart and clearly misses injured star outfielder AJ Pollock, who is expected to miss 4-8 weeks with a thumb injury. Frankly, Arizona just wasn’t as good as it looked through the first 35 games. But it’s not this bad. The Snakes have allowed the Dodgers to climb back into the division race, though. Colorado now leads the West.
The last thing Arizona needs is another injury, but the team has placed outfielder Steven Souza on the 10-day disabled list with a right pectoral strain. It’s the same injury that cost Souza the first five weeks of the season, and this could very well be another extended absence. Souza struck out as a pinch hitter Monday in the loss to the Brewers in his first game action since aggravating the injury on Friday. Clearly, the team didn’t like the look of his swing. One bright spot in Monday’s loss was Jake Lamb hitting his first homer of the season. Lamb’s first homer came in his third game back from the DL and seventh game overall this season.
Struggling Paul Goldschmidt is a career .381 hitter with 9 home runs and 31 RBI in 43 games vs. Brewers, ranking among the top active players against Milwaukee in OPS, average and slugging pct.
Who Will Take the Mound for Arizona?
The Snakes start Zack Godley here. Godley (4-3, 3.78) struck out six and walked four in Friday’s loss to the Mets, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings. Godley had two runs come around to score in the first inning after an error by Daniel Descalso, and later in the fifth he allowed an RBI single to Michael Conforto. Godley now has 49 strikeouts in 52.1 innings, but he’s also walked 23 in that span. Last year the right-hander had a 3.1 BB/9 but this year is sporting a rate of 4.0. Godley has now issued 15 walks over his past five outings (4.7 BB/9) and he hasn’t won a game since April 27.
Why Bet on Milwaukee’s MLB Odds?
The Brewers lead the NL Central and Monday’s series-opening win was their eighth victory in the past 11 games. Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-4 and hit his sixth homer Monday. Cain has been one of the NL’s most valuable players this year with his .387 OBP, 29 runs scored and excellent defense. The Brewers have homered in each of their last 5 games (as of Tuesday), totaling 13 HR.
Corey Knebel pitched a perfect ninth Monday for his first save since coming off the disabled list. The Brewers are still easing Knebel back into regular work, so he might not get all of their save chances in the near future. Since coming off the DL, he’s pitched five innings and allowed one run, that coming in his first appearance back. In addition, the Brewers are 16-0 this season in games where Josh Hader pitches. He has 56 strikeouts in just 27.1 innings, most among Major League relievers.
With a win Tuesday, the Brewers (29-19) would be a season-high 11 games over .500. The team was a season-high 11 games over .500 twice in 2017: 52-41 on 7/15 and 81-70 on 9/19. The Brewers are 9-2 against NL West opponents this season: 3-1 vs. Arizona, 3-1 vs. Colorado and 3-0 vs. San Diego.
Who Will Face Godley on the Mound for the Brewers?
It’s lefty Brent Suter (3-3, 4.72) on the mound. Suter had lost his rotation spot temporarily but injures brought him back to it. He beat the Twins in Minnesota on Friday, surrendering one run and five hits over 5.2 innings. Suter has yet to record a quality start this season, but he has now made eight starts of at least five innings and has allowed three runs or fewer in five of them. Opponents are batting .281 this season (54-for-192, 7 HRs) off Suter, who has never faced Arizona. This might be his last start with Chase Anderson returning from the DL Monday and pitching well.
