It isn’t very exciting for fans to see their team play .500 ball, but in some situations, that level of play may be enough to keep a team hanging around until they hit an inevitable hot streak. That is exactly where the Atlanta Braves are right now in the baseball odds, and they will be looking to maintain a winning run when they face the Milwaukee Brewers at Turner Field on Saturday in the third of a 4-game series.

Time: Saturday, 4:10 p.m. ET
Venue: Turner Field, Atlanta
National TV: Fox Sports 1
Opening line: Braves -146, Brewers +137 (7)

In fairness to the Braves (20-20) they were expected to be a whole lot worse than .500 at this stage of the season, but they have been doing a good job of getting clutch wins and staying relevant in the NL East. It has been a particularly good run of for Atlanta this week, as they have gone 5-1, which included a sweep of the Miami Marlins to get the week rolling. They also split a 2-game interleague set with the red hot Tampa Bay Rays before hammering the Brewers 10-1 in the opening game of this series. The Braves have to be happy with the fact that they have only given up 13 runs during that 6-game stretch, whilst lighting up the board with 31 runs of their own. Shelby Miller (5-1, 1.33 ERA) has been as good as the numbers suggest, and actually came within 1 out of throwing a no-hitter in his last start.

It looked for a while as though the Brewers (15-27) were starting to get their act together, but the wheels appear to have come off once more. They are surrendering runs at a pretty alarming rate, and other than a nice 8-run outburst versus the Tigers, have not been offering up much in the way of offense. To add insult to injury, pitcher Will Smith was tossed in the early innings against the Braves when a foreign substance was spied on his arm. He has been hit with an 8-game suspension that he plans to appeal. Even if Smith had stayed in the game, he may have been hammered anyway, as the Braves bats were red hot en route to a 10-1 win. The Brewers will that Mike Fiers (1-4, 4.75 ERA) will be able to stop some of the defensive bleeding on Saturday.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

Picking up Shelby Miller from the Cardinals was the best move that the Braves made in the postseason, and I think it will continue to reap dividends on Saturday. Look for the Braves to win again in convincing fashion.
