Can the Braves Upset the Mets at the MLB Spread for Tuesday?

It’s still a little too early in the MLB season to get carried away about the performance of all the teams in the league, but it’s tough not to be a little surprised at some of the things that are going on. There are a couple of favorites who have stumbled rather heavily out the gate, which has opened the door for the other teams in their respective divisions. One division that looks a little different than what we expected is the NL East. The feeling was that the Washington Nationals were going to dominate, just as they did last season, but in the early going it is the New York Mets who have wrestled control at the top, and that includes dominating the MLB spread week after week.

The surprising Atlanta Braves are hot on their heels, though, which makes this series one to watch in the early part of the week. They come in as the MLB odds underdog against a Mets team that is currently holding a game and a half lead over the Braves, but that could all change by the time this series is over with.

Why bet on the Atlanta Braves?

The Braves have been in rebuilding mode for a couple of seasons, but are starting to reap the rewards, as they have a trio of young players who look ready to take the MLB by storm. We saw a little of what Dansby Swanson brings to the table last season, and now Ozzie Albies, with his 9 HR and 20 RBI, and Ronald Acuna are strutting their stuff. It still remains to be seen whether this young Braves team can hang in there for the long haul, but there is no denying that they are a fun team to watch.

The Braves have been spraying the ball all over the park, driving home 151 runs, which puts them on top of the NL in run production. That power has helped them win games when the pitching has been off. Speaking of pitching, it will be Sean Newcomb (1-1, 4.23 ERA) who gets the start. He pitched 6 solid innings the last time he faces the Mets, giving up just 2 ER in a 5-3 loss for the Braves.

Why bet on the New York Mets?

The Mets charged to the top of the NL East from opening day, and while they still sport an impressive 17-9 record on the season, they are showing signs of slowing down. The Mets have gone just 5-5 in their last 10 games, although they did close out last week quite well by taking 2 of 3 from the San Diego Padres, including a 14-2 win on Sunday. That offensive outburst was a little different from what we have come to expect from the Mets this season, as they are down near the middle of the pack.

The Mets are huge favorites at the MLB Spread for Tuesday.

The Mets are not much better in terms of their numbers with the pitching staff, which is why it is so surprising that they have made such a strong start to the season. It will be Noah Syndergaard (2-0, 2.86 ERA) who will get the nod here.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Braves took 2 of 3 from the Mets in their last meeting in the ATL. Atlanta is going well right now, but I think Syndergaard may just be able to slow them down a little on Tuesday night for the Mets to win and cover the MLB spread.

Score Prediction: Atlanta Braves 3 – New York Mets 5
