When the going gets tough in the final few weeks of the baseball betting season, it is often the teams that have a ton of experience who rise to the occasion. That is why it is going to be interesting to see how the young Chicago Cubs handle the pressure of a playoff race. They have handled it very well so far, but have another tough test ahead of them when they head into LA to face the Dodgers on Saturday as part of a 3-game series.

Closer Look at the Chicago Cubs at LA Dodgers MLB Betting Lines Analysis & Game Info

Date/Time: Saturday, August 29th, 9:10 PM
Venue: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA
TV: SportsNet LA, MLBN
Radio: 570 LA Sports, KTNQ 1020
Opening line: Chicago Cubs -108

To be fair to this Cubs (73-53) team, they have not really shown any signs that they might crack under the pressure. The young guys on their teams are either that good or simply don’t know enough to be worried about failing coming down the stretch. My feeling is that it is the former of those two options that are the most likely. This 6-game west coast road swing did not get off to the best of starts for Chicago, as they dropped 2 of 3 against the San Francisco Giants. That took their record over the last 10 games to 6-4, but there is still not a lot of reason to get overly concerned. Their lead in the Wild Card is at 5.5 games, and the chasing Giants are in the midst of a very tough stretch of games. The Cubs have more than enough quality to get the wins they need to make the postseason. Jon Lester (8-9, 3.44 ERA) will be looking to replicate his brilliant last outing when he gets the start on Saturday.

The Dodgers (70-56) can finally relax a little, as they come off a 3-5 road trip that could have been a whole lot worse. They actually lost the first 5 games on the road, but managed to save a little face by sweeping the Reds before heading home. Much has been made of the Dodgers play on the road this season, and for very good reason. They are 8 games under .500 away from Dodger Stadium, which is not something you would expect from a team that is this loaded with talent from top to bottom. They still have a bunch of games to play on the road before the regular season ends, and with a slim 2.5 game lead in the division, they had better hope that they can get better when traveling. Mat Latos (4-9, 4.81 ERA) has not really delivered the goods since coming over from the Marlins, and will be entering this game on a 2-game losing streak.

Key Betting Trends

  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Chi Cubs’s last 5 games when playing LA Dodgers
  • Chi Cubs is 19-6 SU in its last 25 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of LA Dodgers’s last 7 games
  • LA Dodgers is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games at home

The Dodgers are very good at home, but their offensive struggles of late, combined with the less than stellar performance of Mat Latos on the mound points me in the direction of a Cubs win.
