Chicago Cubs at New York Mets MLB Betting Lines Prediction

There are usually no prizes for second place in sports, but in baseball, finishing second in your division can mean a spot in the Wild Card. While that is often enough to keep teams motivated throughout the year, it can be tough to maintain a high level of focus when the team ahead of you in the division is beginning to run away with it. This is the task that the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets are facing in their respective divisions. They will meet for a 3-game series in New York starting on Tuesday MLB betting.

A Brief Report on Chicago Cubs at New York Mets MLB Betting Lines Prediction & Game Info

Time: Tuesday June 30, 5:10 p.m. ET
Venue: Citi Field, Flushing, New York
National TV: ESPN
Opening line: Mets -110, Cubs +100 (7)

The Chicago Cubs (39-35) have been one of the surprise teams of the season, but a few chinks are starting to appear in their very young armor. They are on a 5-game losing skid that has seen all of the losses come against teams they would likely have to face if they did make it into the postseason. The started well enough against the LA Dodgers, taking the first 2 games in the series, but those victories were followed by back to back losses, and then a 3-game sweep at the hands of the red-hot St. Louis Cardinals. There is certainly no shame in losing to those two teams, but this is who the Cubs are going to have to beat if they want to continue with the positive strides they have made this season. Kyle Hendricks (2-4, 4.46 ERA) will get the start for the Cubs on Tuesday night. Hendricks will be looking to snap out of his current 2-game losing skid.

The New York Mets (40-37) have taken their fans on something of a rollercoaster ride this season. This is a team that goes from looking great to looking truly awful almost overnight. They broke out of a 7-game losing skid with a win over the Milwaukee Brewers, and have since gone 5 games unbeaten. They are still very much in the picture for the division title in the NL East, but they will need to find a much better level of consistency if they hope to overhaul the Washington Nationals. What that will mean is getting much better on the road. They are just 11-26 when visiting other ballparks, which is well off the 29-11 pace they are setting on home field. Johnathon Niese (3-7, 3.12 ERA) will take to the mound for the Mets. The Mets have only managed to win 4 of the 14 starts that Niese has made this season.

My Betting Prediction

This does not look like being a pitching duel for the ages, and I wouldn’t be too surprised to see a lot of runs cross the plate. The Cubs are down right now, but I think that this is a game that they can win to help them get back on track.
