Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs MLB Odds Preview & Pick
Every team starts the season in hopes of carving out some sort of identity through the course of the year, yet very few ever manage to do so. The Chicago Cubs have definitely found theirs this year, as they have established themselves as a team that is young and fearless. They will look to continue their improbable season when they welcome in the Cincinnati Reds to start the week. Game 2 of the MLB betting series will go on Tuesday night.

It must have been a fun flight home for the Chicago Cubs (74-55) on Sunday night, as I imagine they were celebrating the no-hitter thrown by Jake Arrieta all the way from LA to Chicago. As exciting as that game was, it came at a perfect time for the Cubs. They had lost 2 of 3 to the Giants, and were in danger of being swept by the Dodgers before Arrieta performed his magic. That road trip was a bit of a minor bump for the Cubs, as they have been excellent away from home all season long. They will enjoy some home cooking all this week before having to head out for an extended 10-game road trip the week after. There are some very tough games ahead, but a playoff spot looks like a lock for the Cubs at this point. Dan Haren (8-9, 3.90 ERA) has not been at his best since coming over from Miami, and will be looking to improve as the regular season draws to a close.
It has been a miserable year for the Cincinnati Reds (53-76), and they are on a losing streak right now that they cannot seem to dig out of. They have won only 2 of their last 16 games, and have been swept on 3 separate occasions during that run. Their only wins during this period have come in a make-up game versus the Tigers, and a 12-9 win over the Brewers that helped them avoid yet another sweep. There is no telling just how bad things are going to get before the regular season mercifully draws to a close for the Reds, as their closing schedule features a ton of games against teams that are in the playoffs right now. Anthony DeSclafani (7-10, 3.84 ERA) will start, and will be trying to avoid losing his 4th straight game.
Key Betting Trends
- The total has gone OVER in 6 of Cincinnati’s last 9 games on the road
- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Cincinnati’s last 6 games when playing on the road against Chi Cubs
- Chi Cubs is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home
- Chi Cubs is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Cincinnati
DeSclafani has not pitched that poorly for the Reds, but has received very little in the way of run support. He could well be in trouble again in this one, as the Cubs young guns look to roll to another win.
