Expert MLB Pick on Chicago Cubs at Arizona Diamondbacks

Prior to the start of every MLB betting season, it’s fun to assess each team and look at what their strengths and weaknesses may be. When that has been done, we can then go about predicting who will finish where, yet there are usually a couple of teams that come out and confound everyone with their play. At this point in the season, the Chicago Cubs are one of those surprise teams. They will travel to Arizona on Friday to begin a 3-game series with the Diamondbacks.

A Look at the Expert MLB Pick on Chicago Cubs at Arizona Diamondbacks & TV Info

Time: Friday, 9:40 p.m. ET
Venue: Chase Field, Phoenix
National TV: none
Opening line: Cubs -131, Diamondbacks +121 (8.5)

The Cubs (22-17) are beginning to make more and more people believe that they might just be for real. Make no mistake, this is a talented young ball club, but the emphasis there has to very much be on the word young. Kris Bryant was tagged as the next big thing at the start of the season, and since being called up from the minors, he has certainly lived up to the hype. He seems to have an uncanny ability to see every pitch perfectly, which is why he is getting on base at such a ridiculous clip. The Cubs have come out of a bit of a losing streak, and are now a solid 7-3 in their last 10 games. They have some work to do to keep pace with the Cardinals, but it’s beginning to look like they are going to hang around. Jon Lester (4-2, 3.70 ERA) will start on Friday, and will be in search of his 5th straight win.

Things have not been going particularly well in the desert this season, as the Arizona Diamondbacks (18-21) have been struggling to put things together, thanks in large part to a pitching staff that is performing as poorly as expected. It does look as though Arizona is trying to make a push back to some sort of respectability, though, as they are coming off a 3-game win streak over Marlins, with the potential for a sweep on Thursday. It would be easy to suggest that such an accomplishment is not particularly impressive, but as bad as the Marlins are, you still have to try and find a way to beat them. The series against the Cubs is going to be a much sterner test of the character, and the pitching, of this team. Josh Collmenter (3-5, 5.36 ERA) will get the start for Arizona. Collmenter has lost his last two starts, and was hit pretty hard in both.
