There is usually always some real drama to be found in the final week of the MLB betting season, and it appears as though this one is no different. The biggest source of excitement has to be in the AL Wild Card race, which looks to be coming down to a battle between the Houston Astros and the LA Angels for the final spot. The Angels will continue their playoff drive when they host the Oakland A’s on Wednesday night.

The Angels (82-74) are in a rich vein of form right now, having reeled off 6 straight wins. Despite that great run, they are still a half game back of the Astros for the final spot. If truth be told, though, they still also have a shot at the division crown, as just a game and a half separates them from the division leading Texas Rangers. There is no real secret to the success of the Angels of late, as it pretty much all boils down to the return of form for Mike Trout. He had been struggling with a bit of a wrist injury that saw him hit well below his usual production numbers in the month of August. He is hot now, though, and the rest of the Angels team is responding as they should. After this series, the Angels have 4 against the Texas Rangers, which could well decide who wins the west. Garrett Richards (15-11, 3.73 ERA) will try to make it 3 wins in a row with this start.Given the way the schedule had been laid out for them, it was always going to be a tough final stretch for the Oakland A’s (65-92). Prior to this series, they had to face Houston, Texas, and San Francisco in consecutive series. The results may actually have been worse than expected, as the A’s only managed to go 2-7 through that ridiculously tough stretch. They have started out this series with another loss, and are looking at having a pretty awful end to what was already a disappointing year. On the bright side, Billy Butler has been tearing things up through the month of September, but his efforts alone are not enough to drive this team to success. Barry Zito (0-0, 18.00 ERA) will be making what may well be his last career start on Wednesday.
