Taking a Look at the Expert MLB Betting Pick on Washington at Atlanta & TV InfoTime: Thursday July 2nd, 5:10 p.m. ET Venue: Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia National TV: none Opening line: Washington -128, Atlanta +118 There is no two ways about it, the Washington Nationals (43-34) are absolutely red hot right now. They have gone 9-1 in their last 10 games and are executing to the highest level on offense and defense. They have opened up a 3.5 game lead at the top of the division, and have almost single-handedly snuffed out any challenge that the Braves may have hoped to make. Washington has faced the Braves 4 times in the past week, and have won them all, giving up only 2 runs in the process. This is actually indicative of how well the Nats have been playing of late, and a lot of credit has to go to the pitching staff who are finally starting to put up the sort of numbers we all believed they would. Max Scherzer (9-5, 1.79 ERA) will get the start for the Nats on Thursday, and yet he has been as good as his numbers suggest. You have to feel a little bit of sympathy for the Atlanta Braves (36-41) right now. Not only have the schedule gods set them up to run into teams on fire at the moment, they also have to face them without their best slugger, Freddie Freeman, who will be out until after the All-Star Break. Where the Braves are at right now is where they were pretty much expected to be, but up until a week or two ago, this was a team that was surprising a lot of people who had them written off before the season began. Had they been able to be at or just above .500 right now, they may well have been in the market for a few guys at the trade deadline, but this recent slump makes you believe those thoughts are now being dismissed. Manny Banuelos is scheduled to make his first start for the Braves on Thursday.
