The strength of the NL Central this season is pretty amazing, with the St. Louis Cardinals being the first team in baseball to clinch a playoff spot for the thrill of their MLB betting fans. The Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs will likely do the same thing this week, and the Cubs have a great chance to get the job done early when they welcome in the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night

It looks as though the Cubs (87-62) and Pirates are going to meet in the Wild Card game, which means it’s now just a matter of deciding who gets home field advantage. The Pirates hold a 2-game edge, but Chicago has shown that they can hang with the big boys by posting a 5-2 combined record versus their big division rivals last week. The Cuba actually came pretty close to getting the sweep in both of those series, and will love the fact that they have served notice to a pair of teams that they might well have to face in the postseason. The one thing that the Cubs cannot do in this series is look ahead to the next one, which is once again versus the Pirates.

They know that a solid performance this week could put them in a prime Wild Card spot, as well as getting inside the heads of the team from the Steel City. Jake Arrieta (19-6, 1.96 ERA) will be looking for his 20th win of the season on Friday night, which may well solidify his chances of winning the Cy Young.

It was something of a disastrous week for the Milwaukee Brewers (63-86), as they needed a win over the Reds on Sunday night to prevent them from going winless for the week. That win also helped them snap out of an 8-game losing skid. The Brewers have to be disappointed with how things have gone over the past couple of weeks, especially when you consider how well they were playing at the start of September. Realistically, though, the end of the season can’t come quickly enough for Milwaukee, although there is some cause for optimism given the young talent that they brought in at the trade deadline.

Those young guys will get a chance to gain some more valuable big league experience over the final 2 weeks of the season. Kyle Lohse (5-13, 6.01 ERA) will get the start for the Brewers.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bet

As well as Jake Arrieta has been playing this season, I just don’t see him passing up the opportunity to get win number 20 on Tuesday night. You can bet that his teammates will be doing all they can to guarantee the win.
