While it’s beginning to look more and more and more as though the National League playoff picture is about to be set in stone, the race in the AL remains wide open. There are 6 teams who are within 4.5 games of the final Wild Card spot, which is going to make these last few weeks very interesting indeed for online sports betting fans. The Baltimore Orioles are very much in that hunt, and they have a tough interleague series against the New York Mets starting on Tuesday night in Baltimore.

The Mets (63-55) still hold a pretty commanding 4.5 game lead atop the NL East, but that could all be very different if the Washington Nationals were ever able to get their act together. The Mets are coming into this 2-game series after being swept by the Pirates over the weekend, but with the Nats now on a 6-game losing skid, that cushion at the top remains comfortable. Fortunes can change quickly in baseball, though, and the Mets need to find a way to get back to winning so that the final few nails can be driven into the Nationals coffin. In fairness to the Mets, they battled hard in the weekend series against Pittsburgh, and had 2 of the 3 losses come in extra innings. It was only the sweep game that turned into a bit of a blowout. Jacob DeGrom (11-6, 2.03 ERA) will be back on the mound for the Mets, who have won 6 games in a row with him pitching. The Baltimore Orioles (60-56) are sitting just off the epic battle being waged between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees in the AL East. Running those two down is going to be no easy task, but they can take solace in the fact that they are holding on to the final spot in the Wild Card race. That said, there are a couple of teams who are starting to get hot, and who could very easily take the O’s out if there are any slip ups in Baltimore. The Orioles certainly responded well over the weekend, taking out the Oakland A’s in a 3-game sweep. It was an impressive offensive outburst, as the Orioles managed 30 runs in those 3 games, highlighted by the 18 they hammered home in the Sunday win. Kevin Gausman (2-4, 4.48 ERA) will be trying to snap a 2-game losing skid when he gets the start on Tuesday.
