Houston Astros vs Arizona Diamondbacks MLB Odds Pick

There is a kind of fragility that comes with playing a 162-game season in baseball. A hot streak can turn cold overnight, which means that very few teams ever really feel truly comfortable until they have officially booked their place in the postseason. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Houston Astros are both going very well right now, but a poor performance by one or the other when they meet for a 3-game series in Houston over the weekend could send things the other way, Game 2 of that series is set for Saturday night with Houston listed as a -190 favorite on MLB lines.

An In Depth Analysis on the Houston Astros vs Arizona Diamondbacks MLB Odds Pick & TV Info

Date: Saturday, August 1st, 2015
Time: 7:10PM
Venue: Minute Maid Park
Opening Line: Houston -190

The Houston Astros (58-45) sputtered a little in the final couple of weeks of the first half, allowing the LA Angels to overtake them in the AL West division. The break seems to have worked wonders for them, as they have been on fire ever since, and have been getting outstanding performances from their pitching staff. The Astros have built up a 2-game lead atop the division once again, and are now 7-3 in their last 10 games.

They did take a disappointing series loss against the Royals, but bounced back brilliantly to sweep the Angels in their last series, outscoring them 19-8 in the process. It was that win that has put them back on top and straight into the division driver’s seat. Dallas Keuchel (12-5, 2.32 ERA) has been nothing short of brilliant all season long, but will be looking to bounce back after a poor performance in his last start versus the Royals.

It has been something of a frustrating season for the Arizona Diamondbacks (49-51) as they have had periods of looking great followed by spells of total mediocrity. The first half of the season was spent chasing the elusive .500 mark, which they eventually reached before going in the tank once again. Things have been much better in the second half, though, and they enter this series on a 5-game winning streak. The hole that they have dig for themselves is a big one, and the chances of them getting back into the division race seem pretty slim. They are also 6.5 games back in the Wild Card race, which is not a totally insurmountable task if they can find a way to be consistent for the rest of the season. Jeremy Hellickson (7-6, 4.60 ERA) will start for the D-Back’s on Saturday as he goes in search of back to back wins.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

This has the makings of a great pitcher’s duel, as both men have been throwing the ball very well as of late. Keuchel is the better of the two, and it’s hard to see him having back to back poor games, which is why I like the Astros to win.
