The three teams in the AL East who are out of the playoff picture are sure to be going through some major changes in the offseason. How they all finish up will likely go a long way towards determining who stays and who goes. The Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles will have a chance to state their case when they finish up a 3-game MLB betting series in Baltimore on Wednesday.

The Red Sox (68-75) have already shaken things up in the front office, which would lead you to believe that the offseason is going to be particularly active. One of the biggest decisions that will have to be made is what to do with the starting rotation. Rick Porcello, Joe Kelly, and Wade Miley were all brought in by former GM Ben Cherington in the offseason, and none of them have really justified the salaries that they are being paid. The chances of the Red Sox having a winning season next year do not look particularly great if that same staff is kept in place. Boston came into this match-up having won the previous three series, but a 2-0 loss in the first game is going to make it tough for them to keep their good run going. Henry Owens (2-2, 5.25 ERA) is coming into this one on a 3-game winless streak. The Baltimore Orioles (70-73) are another team with a lot of decisions to be made this offseason, especially since a number of their higher profile players will be heading to free agency. Chris Davis is arguably the biggest of those names, and with what he has done over the past few seasons, you can expect his asking price to be astronomical. The Orioles are on a decent run of form at the moment, having won 5 of their last 6 games, but it’s all coming a little bit too late. The race for the Wild Card spots in the AL is heating up, but at 6 games off the pace, the O’s would need an awful lot of help if they were to somehow make their way into the postseason. Mike Wright (2-4, 5.45 RA) will be on the mound for the Orioles on Wednesday night.
