Take a look at the NL West and you will see that the teams from California are sitting one, two, and three right now. The goal of all of those teams is to win the division and get into the postseason, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some state, as well as division, rivalry going on. Two of those teams, the LA Dodgers and the San Diego Padres, meet up for a 3-game series in San Diego starting on Friday with the Dodgers as online sports betting favorites to take the first match.

A Brief Look at the LA Dodgers vs San Diego Padres MLB Betting Preview & TV Info

Time: Friday, 10:10 p.m. ET
Venue: Petco Park, San Diego
National TV: none
Opening line: Dodgers -188, Padres +178 (6)

The Dodgers (35-25) are currently atop the standings, but they have had to fight and claw to hold off the World Champion San Francisco Giants. Since the middle of May, the Dodgers have been struggling to find any kind of decent form, and have been losing a good deal more than they have been winning. There are some signs that they might be ready to break out again, as they are just coming off a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. While that would be a series that most would expect them to comfortably win, it was the manner in which they did so that has to be pleasing. The Dodgers scored 19 runs in those 3 games, which is a whole lot better than what their offense has been delivering of late. Clayton Kershaw (5-3, 3.36 ERA) will get the start for the Dodgers on Friday. Kershaw will be looking to make it 4 wins in a row.

The Padres (30-31) were on a solid run of form that saw them finally cross the .500 mark, but they have slipped back under again after dropping 2 in a row to the Atlanta Braves. At the time of writing, they were sitting tied in the 3rd inning in the final game of that series, and they really need to come up with a win so that they can get back home with some something positive to draw on. They will only have 5 games at home before they have to hit the road for an extended trip, so this series versus the Dodgers is one that they will want to win so that they can build some momentum as they head out. Odrisamer Despaigne (3-4, 4.72 ERA) will be in the mound for the Padres on Friday. He has been hit pretty hard in quite a few outings this season, and will need to do better if he wants to shut down the hot bats of the Dodgers.

Key Betting Trends

The total has gone UNDER in 4 of LA Dodgers’s last 5 games
The total has gone OVER in 12 of San Diego’s last 14 games

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

Kershaw is on a winning roll for the Dodgers right now, and I believe he can take his win streak to 4 games in this on. Look for the Dodgers to pile on the runs en route to a comfortable win.
