MLB Lines Prediction on Chicago Cubs at San Diego Padres

When you are a team coming into the season with high expectations, any sort of losing streak is viewed as a minor bum in the road. When you are a team that is overachieving, those losing streaks are generally viewed as a sign that you are finally playing the way everyone believed you would. The Chicago Cubs have had a solid start to the season, seemingly against all MLB odds, and they will face the San Diego Padres in a 3-game series on the road, starting on Tuesday night.

A Sneak Peak at the MLB Lines Prediction on Chicago Cubs at San Diego Padres & Game Info

Time: Tuesday, 10:10 p.m. ET
Venue: Petco Park, San Diego
National TV: MLB Network
Opening line: Padres -123, Cubs +113 (6.5 runs).

The Chicago Cubs (21-16) have an exciting young squad that many believe will be great in a year or two. It seems that these young guys are a little eager to get noticed, though, as the Cubs are doing a pretty great job of keeping up with the red hot St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. People were ready to start writing this bunch off when they got off to a very slow start in May, but they have since gone 6-1 in their last 7 to once again confound the baseball pundits. It’s tough to say whether or not this team is for real at this point in the season, but they sure are making it fun to find out. Jason Hammel (3-1, 3.11 ERA) is set to start for the Cubs on Tuesday night. He has delivered back to back quality starts for Chicago, and will be looking to make it 3 in a row.

The San Diego Padres (19-20) have been flirting with .500 all season long, and could really use a winning streak to try and build some momentum. The Padres have been struggling to get runs across the plate for quite some time now, and it’s Andrew Cashner who has taken the brunt of the damage. Cashner is 1-7 despite having an ERA of just 3.27. Almost all of his efforts have been wasted by a total lack of run support. On the bright side, Justin Upton has proven to be an effective base runner, as he has been successful on all 7 of his steal attempts to this point in the season. James Shields (5-0, 3.91 ERA) will get the start for the Padres on Tuesday, and will be looking to extend his win streak to 4 in a row.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

As much as you have to admire what James Shields has delivered so far this season for the Padres, there has to be some concern about run support. I think the Cubs will do just enough to get the win and keep their hot streak alive.
