The St. Louis Cardinals are shaping up to be the team to beat in the National League, but there are a number of teams who are breathing down their neck in hot pursuit. The World Champion San Francisco Giants are starting to look very, very good, and the Pittsburgh Pirates are also beginning to show some real signs of life. These two will meet up in what promises to be a great online sports betting match-up, with the second game of their 3-game series set for Tuesday night in sunny California.
MLB Betting Match Preview on Pittsburgh Pirates vs SF Giants
Oh @TheCUTCH22, you’re awesome http://t.co/KRU4k9qgjG pic.twitter.com/vgcP45tcbw— Sports Illustrated (@SInow) May 31, 2015The Giants (30-22) started out the season seeing how difficult it is to repeat as a champion. April was a bit of an up and down month, but May turned into the best one in quite some time. The 21 wins that the Giants posted in May was their best since back in 1968. They could have easily bettered that number, but a late innings collapse against the visiting Atlanta Braves on Sunday saw them close out the month on a bit of a sour note. This is not a team that looks as though it is ready to go on a long losing streak, though, so expect them to bounce back quickly after losing 2 in a row to Atlanta. The 15 runs that they have given up in the last 2 games have to be a concern, but given how good the pitching has been through the month of May, it is likely just an aberration. Chris Heston (5-3, 3.82 ERA) will take to the mound for the Giants on Tuesday. Heston is on a roll, having won 3 of his last 4 starts. The Pittsburgh Pirates (26-24) came into the season with expectations high, but they sputtered through the first month of the season, thanks in large part to their bats being very cold. Things started to warm up in May, though, and the Pirates put together a very solid month of ball. Their 7-game win streak towards the end of the month finally got them over .500, but they still have some work to do in order to run down the Cardinals and Cubs atop the division. Pittsburgh is in the middle of a 10-game road trip that they started with a split in San Diego. Once they get done with San Francisco, they will head to Atlanta before going back to Pittsburgh for an extended home stand. A.J. Burnett (5-1, 1.81 ERA) will get the start on Tuesday, and will look to extend his winning streak to 6 games.
