Miami at Washington MLB Odds & Game Preview
The number of teams with a shot at making the playoffs gets lower with each passing series. Those teams in the chasing pack who start to drop games will see their target grow increasingly smaller until it becomes impossible to hit. With a loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night, the Washington Nationals just saw their target shrink once again. They will try to continue to stay alive when they welcome in the Miami Marlins on Friday night where they are listed as favorite on MLB lines.

Opening Line: Washington -250
— Washington Nationals (@Nationals) August 27, 2015
The Washington Nationals (63-62) are now entering the part of the season where they almost have to be perfect in everything they do. They have slipped 6.5 games back of a New York Mets team who just don’t seem to be losing at all right now. If there is a bright spot for the Nationals, it’s that they have a very manageable schedule through the last 35 games or so, but they are now at the point where things are totally out of their control.
All they can do now is win and hope that the Mets somehow go into a tailspin. This series against Miami is also important because it comes right before a series with the St. Louis Cardinals. If they cannot beat out the Marlins, and end up losing to the Cards, as most expect, then this thing could be over quickly. Max Scherzer (11-10, 2.79 ERA) has gone a little cold of late, and is coming into this one on a 2-game losing skid.
Check at the bottom of all the major stats lists in the MLB, and you will be sure to find the Miami Marlins (51-76) right there in the mix. It has been a disastrous season for Miami, and one that fans wish would be over. That said, they have shown that they have the ability to upset the apple cart a little, as they always seem to find a way to sneak a game in every series that they play. Taking one of the three games in this serious would be a serious body blow to the Nats. The return of Giancarlo Stanton, who has been out for a couple of months through injury, likely won’t come until next week, which is sure to be good news for Washington. Adam Conley (1-1, 4.88 ERA) will be making his second start after being added to the starting rotation. He was excellent in his first start, and was unlucky to take the loss.

Earlier in the season, Max Scherzer on the mound meant a win for the Nationals. That has not been the case of late, but I think they can get back to winning ways with this Friday match-up.
