You tend to find out what a team is really all about when they are forced to face some level of adversity. The New York Yankee and the Minnesota Twins were both put to the test last week, and it might be fair to say that both passed with flying colors. There will be not time to rest on their laurels, though, as they are set to play a 3-game series in New York, with the second game set for Tuesday night. The Yankees head in as favorites to win on the sports betting odds.

The Yankees (64-52) had it pretty rough last week, as they saw their 6.5 game lead atop the NL East wiped out by the Toronto Blue Jays. They had been swept by Toronto earlier in the week, and had the unenviable task of heading north of the border to face them again in a crucial weekend series. The Yankees responded brilliantly, and came away with a series win, as well as a half-game lead back atop the division. They are well aware that the job is not yet done, though, as they still have 7 games remaining against the Jays before the season is over. They cannot afford to look ahead, as this series against the Twins plans on being another tough one. The Yankees did manage to beat them in Minnesota right after the All-Star break, so they have to be confident coming in to this series. CC Sabathia (4-9, 5.23 ERA) has had back to back quality starts, but did not pick up the win in either one.

The Twins (59-58) have had a disastrous second half that has seen them fall off the Wild Card pace. Their pitching, which was so good in the first half, headed south in a hurry, leaving them constantly having to try and find enough offense to get wins. Minnesota came into last week knowing that they could be in real trouble of the slide continued, and they responded well, winning back to back series against the Rangers and the Indians. They are now a game and a half out of the final Wild Card spot, but have a few teams ahead of them who are going well right now. They really cannot afford to lose too many more series in the home stretch. Mike Pelfrey (6-7, 3.70 ERA) was brilliant in his last start, giving up just 1 earned run in the win.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bet

As well as Sabathia has pitched in his last couple of starts, he has not been consistent enough all season long. I’m just not sure he can deliver 3 in a row, which is why I like the Twins here.
