Expert MLB Betting Pick on Washington at Arizona

It’s never a good idea to get too dramatic when talking about the performance of a team during the first few weeks of the season. The teams that come bolting out of the gate early on often find it hard to maintain the pace, while those that get off to a slower start discover their form and get hot. The Washington National fall into the latter category, and are now starting to show the type of form that made them a pre-season favorite to win it all. They will travel to Arizona for a 3-game set against the Diamondbacks, with game 2 MLB lines already set for Tuesday night.

The Washington Nationals (17-15) got off to a sluggish start to the season, with their ace pitching staff finding things a little tough early on. As the starting rotation turned around, so did the fortunes of the team as a whole. They have now gone 8-2 in their last 10 games, and are in the midst of a 4 game winning streak that included a sweep of the Atlanta Braves. A lot of things had to go right in order for that streak to continue, but a lot of the credit has to go to Bryce Harper, who hit 6 home runs during those 4 games. That hot streak lifted Harper to the top of the NL standings for homers with 11 dingers. Stephen Strasburg (2-3, 4.73 ERA) will get the start on Tuesday night after having his start bumped due to some tenderness in his shoulder. Given his previous injury issues, this is something the Nats brass will be watching closely.

The Arizona Diamondbacks (14-16) have the unpleasant task of being stuck in the same division as the LA Dodgers, who are beginning to look like one of the teams to beat this season. As their record suggests, Arizona has had some difficulty maintaining any level of consistency, and have been winning a series, then losing one seemingly over and over again. They are 5-5 in their last 10, which again reflects how the season has gone for them to this point. On the bright side, they have gone 4-2 in their last 6 games, and it appears as though the bats are suddenly hot again. That may be coming just at the right time, as they now have to face what is arguably the best pitching staff in the league. Rubby De La Rosa (3-2, 4.38 ERA) will take to the mound for Arizona on Tuesday night. De La Rosa was lights out in his last start, throwing 7 scoreless innings versus the Padres.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

It’s going to be interesting to see how Strasburg does after his minor injury scare. By all accounts, it was nothing serious, but it may still be in his head. While this could be the best opportunity for Arizona to steal one in this series, I still believe Washington will get the win.
