Over the course of a single 162-game MLB season, it’s tough to put a finger on the exact moment when the fortunes of one team or another took a turn for the better. That said, the sluggish Washington National may point to their dramatic 13-12 come from behind win versus the Atlanta Braves as the moment they began to gain some momentum. Washington will head to New York to face the Mets in a 4-game series starting on Thursday, they’re -104 favorites on MLB odds.

Most baseball fans have spent the month of April wondering when the real Washington Nationals (8-13) were going to show up and start behaving like we all believed they would this season. The improbable win over the Braves on Tuesday may well be the first signs of life, with Dan Uggla turning back the clock to smash a 3-run homer to break the hearts of his former employer. Lest anyone get too carried away here, it’s worth remembering that the Nats pitching staff still managed to give up 12 runs to a Braves team that hasn’t exactly been swinging a hot bat in recent games. Stephen Strasburg (1-2, 4.88 ERA) will be the man on the mound for the opener versus the Mets, and he will have a tough time keeping a very solid Mets team in check.April has been a month to remember for the New York Mets (15-6), as they have a 4.5 game lead in the NL East, as well as being in possession of the best record in baseball. The Mets put together a magnificent 11-game win streak before dropping 2 of 3 to the Yankees. They have split their current series with the Marlins so far, and will be looking to win on Wednesday before they head back to the Big Apple for 6 games at home. Home is certainly where the heart has been for the Mets this season, as they are a perfect 10-0 through April. Jacob DeGrom (2-2, 2.96 ERA) will take to the mound for the Mets on Thursday. DeGrom was great through his first 3 outings, but was roughed up a little in his last start versus the Yankees.
