Good teams are generally able to fight through adversity or rebound when the chips are down. Now may well be the time when we get a real measure of how good the New York Yankees are this baseball betting season, as they have just seen their 6.5 game lead atop the AL East wiped out by the Toronto Blue Jays. They will get the chance to make immediate amends, as these two teams will go head to head for 3 games in Toronto starting on Friday, with the Blue Jays as favorites in the online sports betting odds.

The Yankees (61-51) bats have gone cold at the very worst time possible, and it’s going to be interesting to see what they do to get back on track. Serious questions are now being asked about the lack of moves at the trade deadline, with many feeling that the Yankees really had to do something given all the big moves being made by the Blue Jays, their closest rival at that time. It’s tough to know what management was thinking, but perhaps they believed that the team was playing well enough, and that the lead they had built was really not in serious danger. That now seems to have blown up in their face, and as the Jays continue to roll, the Yankees now need to start thinking about all the teams coming up behind them in the Wild Card race. Ivan Nova (4-4, 3.52 ERA) will try to silence the Blue Jays bats on Friday.

The general consensus was that the Jays (63-52) has definitely strengthened their team at the trade deadline, but no-one could have predicted just how quickly the new pieces would take hold. Toronto has won 10 straight games, and I certainly wouldn’t bet against them making it 11 when they play Oakland on Thursday. They are in a groove right now on both offense and defense, and it looks as though it is going to take a Herculean effort to knock them off. There have been a lot of great moments in this winning streak, but it has to be the sweep of the Yankees that is the highlight. Winning three straight at Yankee Stadium whilst only allowing 1 run in that stretch is not something that many teams will ever do. Newcomer David Price (11-4, 2.35 ERA) will be looking for his 3rd straight win in a Blue Jays uniform.

Home field, a hot streak, and one of the best pitchers in baseball right now is a little too much for the Yankees to overcome. Chalk up another win for the Blue Jays on Friday.
